CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.
The Cubs will receive the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson.
Harden, scheduled to be a free agent after the 2009 season, is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season.
The oft-injured righty missed a month earlier this season because of a right shoulder strain. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in his six-year career. Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press

Dammit, the A's should have at least let him pitch against the Angels this week before trading him if they are to close the gap for the division. Such short term thinking on Billy Beane's part.

I'm not sure who got the better deal. The A's are getting offense in return, which they are in dire need of. And Harden will probably get injured again.

The offense they are getting is horrible. Murton and Patterson fail everytime they get to the big club.. Cubs got the better end of the deal.

you arent lying about that
look at Mulder and Zito right now
sharp as a tack....lives off the farm system...one of the lowest payrolls in the league...and still the A's are over 500. every year!

A's must know something about Harden. Why would they trade him when they are in the thick of the race, and they could have traded him next year since he isn't a free agant until after the 2009 season.

Don't worry about the A's staff. By my reckoning, they still have:
Duscherer: 1.96 ERA
Eveland: 3.50 ERA
Greg Smith: 3.62 ERA
S. Gallagher (now from Cubs): 4.45 (but 49 Ks in 58 innings)
Only Blanton is the real stinker, and even he has decent streaks.

Gallagher, Donaldson, and Patterson were all ranked in most peoples top 6 Cubs prospects prior to the start of the 2008 season.
This is a great trade for Billy Beane who always seems to get the better deals.
Harden was a risk who had to be let go, I mean seriously, the guy is a fragile little pansy.
