    National debt arbitators?
    Picantel-

Someone from an 800 # just called and said that the credit bureaus were reporting I had in the neighborhood of $5000 unsecured debt of some kind, to which I laughed at.

Then they asked if that was incorrect, I said yes, and then they said OK we'll correct that so you don't get this phone call again..?

Fishing for information, and you gave them what they were looking for - as pico stated.

When I receive a call from an 800 number *IF* I decide to answer it I'll say "hello" ONLY ONCE!
The program these dialers use waits for the answering party to say hello TWICE before it connects the call to the person on their end.

Try it for yourself and see.

Remember, only say hello once and wait for someone on their end to anwer, it likely will hang up or give you a "fast busy" signal.

You know- good point. When I first answered someone didn't say anything right away, I actually did say hello twice because I heard like white noise or something on the other end, like something barely audible..

And then once I said "hello?" the second time someone got on the line and the background sounded completely different. I mean, it's not like I established anything other than the # still currently belongs to me, I didn't give out any real info other than that (and not being in debt).

Handling telemarketers and phone "surveys" is one of my specialties.

Most people are too polite and give out information freely when asked to during a phone/sales call.

When I'm asked if I'll participate in a telephone survey I usually respond by asking how much they will be paying me for my participation - after all, time is money, they are likely using the info I provide for profit somewhere along the line.
Their answer is usually that they don't pay for this, at which point I politely tell them I'm not interested.

Sometimes I get a call from someone looking for me but they pronounce my name incorrectly, they obviously don't know me and I tell them "he" is not home at the moment, then they'll ask when a good time is to call back, I usually respond that a good time to call back will be December 2010!!

The funniest phone survey I got was this lady asking me to give my interest in a number of upcoming Hollywood flicks, she was actually pretty cool and chit chatted with me as I gave my answers.

one thing i do when i am really bored is when i get those scam phone calls about collecting prize is let the con artist talk talk talk until they asking, "are you there"...i usually say, "sure, go ahead" very politely...then when the head con man comes in and try to close the deal, i pretend the phone line is bad and make the head con man to yell louder and louder...trust me they usually switch lines between drone con man and head con man so 90% of the time they actually believe they had a bad line. i keep doing this until they realize i am ****ing with the. usually about 2-3 times...then they never ever call again.
