Bengals running back Cedric Benson pleaded no contest in Austin, Texas, for assault in a 2010 incident involving an employee in an Austin bar. For the plea, Benson was sentenced to 20 days in jail.
Benson will return to Austin and turn himself in on Oct. 17, which is the day after the Indianapolis game at Paul Brown Stadium and the start of the bye week. Assistant Travis County Prosecuting Attorney Corby Holcomb told The Austin American-Statesman that with credit for good behavior, Benson would serve about a week in jail. If the normal schedule applies, Benson would only miss one or two practices and should be back in Cincinnati by Oct. 26, which would be the first major practice in preparation for the Oct. 30 game at Seattle.
“We are pleased that Mr. Benson took responsibility for his actions today,” Holcomb told The Statesman.
Benson also resolved the assault charge from July 17 involving an incident with a former roommate. For that case, Benson has entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with prosecutors, which means the charge would be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for a year.He also agreed to serve 30 hours of community service and pay restitution to Clavens Charles. Holcomb told The Statesman that would be about $5,000.
Last week Benson said he had not received a letter from Commissioner Roger Goodell about a hearing in New York for possible violations of the personal conduct policy. If things go like they have in other lockout-related offenses, Benson should not be suspended by the league. Benson met with Goodell last year about the first Austin incident and was not suspended.Comment -

Benson's a good pick up in fantasy leagues with 3 rbs (WR/RB flex spots). Depending on what spot you got him, there's huge upside. Even though bengals suck, they'll be running non-stop. Plus, isn't his contract performance based? the better he does, the more money he gets?Comment -
