The serve was what bothered me the most about Nole, serving and that type of shoulder injury are bad combinations. His serve was pitiful today, the numbers just decreased all week.

This was a quote from Djokovic about the retirement.

Djokovic said after the match on his shoulder injury: “It has been there for about 10 days. Pain was increasing” ”I apologize to the tournament; I apologize to the people who came here today to watch…I really tried. I just could not serve. I could not play forehands.

I could have maybe played another couple of games, but what for? I cannot beat a player like Murray today with one stroke.”

Retiring in a final is the ultimate douche move by a tennis player.

Hopefully it's not fully healed by the US open and my boy Rafa can get back in the saddle.

Yeah greg, it was pretty easy to see from his first match this week that the shoulder was an issue. His serve had been problematic all week. The scorelines of his early matches were very misleading to the naked eye if you didn't watch or at least look at the stats. He was getting broken pretty regularly by guys who are not necessarily solid returners. I really think the whole hype around his record this year put him into a bad situation of trying to play to live up to "expectation" when the smart move for him really would have been to sit out this past week and get a full two weeks of rest. He should be okay with eight days of rest and rehab, but two weeks would have been a much better option.
