In a betting exchange, you're betting against other gamblers, not the bookie. You pay the bookie a commission on wins.

You make a bet against me. The exchange is holding our money. The winner is paid by the betting exchange (minus a commission)

          thanks again sickler.

          one more question,

          in this thread,

there were 4 plays but only 2 won.

someone stated that if they used matchbook they wouldve won $400ish because of their betting odds, is that true?

if so, this person also mentioned that $16,000 in normal bookies can turn out to be $160,000 in matchbook. can you kindly explain to me what that means.

sorry for the dumb questions, but i really appreciate your help though.

Yes, he would've pulled a profit instead of breaking even if the bets were placed at Matchbook.

About the $16 000 to $160 000, I'm not sure where these figures were used. I believe you're talking about Nicky. He seems to know the industry. Maybe he'll see your question and chime in.

                  Welcome to SBR buddy...

An exchange style shop you are betting against other players (making/accepting offers etc), and you are charged a commission by the exchange. You can typically take advantage of juicier offers or some unsuspecting sucker by baiting him into a less than favorable position..

Might I suggest you look into Matchbook?

The biggest difference between bookies and exchanges is that on an exchange you can back to win AND lose, which has led to some very interesting UK court cases regarding Jockeys pulling their horses because they could make more by losing than they could by winning. For anyone interested in that kinda stuff and the whole detailed report about what they wee upto it can be found at http://www.britishhorseracing.com/in...sciplinary.asp

Type in Robert Winston or Luke Fletcher, if you know how a betting exchange works its VERY interesting.
