                                  But to add a few....trying to handicap teams....laughable...team A is good against the run, team B can't run at all... therefore...

                                      It's all of the above, which is why so few actually win.
                                      I'd still say picking winners is #1. A lot of people claim to beat it, but very, very few actually do. The guys that set the numbers are smart, experienced, and have more information on both teams than is possible for any but a select few handicappers.

                                        Way too many "money management" answers in here. In my opinion, that's not even in the Top 3. Your approach to gambling is the hardest part and why people don't win. You need to be able to define your edge. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't be gambling. Bottom line, you just need to use information and observations in a more meaningful way than 95% of people out there.
