OT: Cant get something off my credit report...any advice?
The fvckers at AT&T started taking Paypal as a payment provider back in early 2003. So I sent my payment by Paypal. A few years later I got a letter stating my $146 was never recieved. Of course I have proof it was.

I got it removed from Transunion and the other credit company (name escapes me) but Equifax refuses to remove it. I sent proof by certified mail and tried their online dispute form...nothing.

Im trying to buy a house and the morgt company says opps, got to clear this up 1st. But Ive wasted all these hours over 3 years trying to get it removed and they just wont. Im thinking I wont buy the house cause Im not going to pay them another $146. Kind of stupid I know but just a principal thingy.

    Any advice?

Picantel is probably watering at the mouth to answer this one..

That would be the guy to field this question I'd say, once he sees it..

Have you threatened them with the Better Business Bureau?

Is AT&T still saying they never received the funds? I would show them your proof and give them one more chance to clear it and provide you written proof they have done so for Equifax before you get your lawyer.

I understand the principle thing. I fought a $45 parking ticket for three years to get them to take it off my record. They were getting ready to suspend my liscense. Should have been much quicker. My car was nowhere near Providence at the time. I was working. Oh, and my car was green...the ticket was for a red Honda. When I brought up that point, the bitch really said: "Well, you could have painted it." Riiiight...I painted my whole car to get out of what started as a $15 ticket...then took steel wool to it to make it look like a 10 year old paint job. OR you could just run a VIN check and see that MY ****ING IS AND ALWAYS WAS GREEN!! I swear to god the people in the RI DMV should all be wearing helmets.

John, call my buddy down at the law firm of Rabinowitz, Rabinowitz, Rabinowitz & The Seven Savage Jews. Amazing what a simple letter from their office can do.

AT&T never contacted me at all. Heck if you dont pay your phone bill they cut your service. I still got the same account with them.

Some agency sent a few letters out and I mailed them the proff but didnt get anything back. Then a different company mailed me a collection notice and I just trashed them after seeing that game.

John I had the same problem also. With Southwestern Bell they had it on my credit that I owed them 76 dollars but yet I have had the same acct for 10 yrs. What a bunch of dumbasses these people are.

you will have to send the collection company dispute letters. and then force them to take it off your credit report. (by suing, or threatening to sue) Disputing it with the credit bureau right now is most likely a dead end.
                      go to: http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/...llections.html

also check the SoL (statues of limitation) for your state. the debt may have already expired anyway.

this process will take a couple of months and is a headache, but it should remedy the situation. bad thing is this collection company may drop it and just turn around and sell the debt to another scavenger collector and the process will just repeat itself.

if you want the house tell them the problem. I bet you the realtor would take the 146.00 off the house/commission if they knew you would be approved and buy it.

That way its not your money its someone else's money. I know as a realtor I would do that to make a couple G's.... I mean **** the builder might even do it... He's prob making 20% off your ass

I had the same kind of thing happen sort of... It was a pain in the ass. When I bought my home something showed up that was holding me back from me getting the rate I wanted. I ended up paying 3,500 for my personal lawyer to handle and take care of. He told me it was a lot of phone calls, faxing, waiting, phone calls, faxing etc etc repeated many times.. the run around.. and when it was all said and done took 11 months. But it got taken off.

Maybe you could go up the chain at AT&T and they could help resolve it with a letter. If you are a customer that long, one would hope they might work with you to clear this up and keep your business.

John, what state was this in ? It seems you are very near that statue of limitations as far as this item goes. Have you requested proof showing you this amount is in fact owed? Don't send the proof to the credit reporting agencies. Request proof from whatever company is holding this debt as of now.. considering the amount and the age of the debt, they likely do not have it and will be forced to remove it or face a fine if you pursue it.

worst case scenario, if you need this off the report ASAP and can't wait the 30+ days, you can fax/email them a PFD letter. (pay for deletion) saying you are not acknowledging you owe this debt but you are willing to settle it in the best interest of both parties and then offer them 50% (at most) of the debt, with the stipulation they remove this item from your report. People will tell you this is not allowed or doesnt happen... I promise it does. I went from a 580 to 715 with this kind of form letter. If you need a copy of one Ive used I can email you it.

I had a problem like this when I had identity theft happen to me several years ago. The person ran up a $900 phone bill at sprint and it went to a collection agency. The collection agency would do nothing about it just kept saying the would send a form for me to fill out to have it removed. After calling them for several months and never getting this form I went to my nearest Sprint store and talked to the Manager about it and she was nice enough to take care of it for me. Long story short the collection agency is not going to help you out they will wait around till you pay the bill. If you have not went to an At&t branch I would advise doing that with all the information you have showing you paid the bill.

creditboards.com is the best resource for all things credit, and my advice would be to head over there ASAP......the regulars over there know how to like declare bankruptcy than have a FICO of 700 in like 6 months lol, so I'm sure someone will know how to best deal with this

My buddy is having the same problem. He's looked at houses, and thought he was going to get one. Looks like he's going to lose some money, and may or may not get a house, wicked bummer
