Got no defense, and Rolston is not going to sign with them.

They did win the Cup a few years ago, so they aren't exactly the same story. Also, the cap in the NHL makes this much easier.

5th in East is a compliment. I see no reason why they'll do much better this year than last. Lightning have always been one of the worst teams in the league, like the Kings and Hurricanes(and Whalers). They've all had their good/lucky year, but will have to wait a couple more decades to repeat.

Just so you guys know, I believe that Rolston, Malone and Roberts all had there negotiating rights traded for by the lightning.THat means that they had until today to be the only teams to talk to those players. When the free agency signing period began today, Rolston informed the lightning that he was going to pursue free agency. Not sure what malone and roberts did because I haven't checked the news yet.
So if they don't sign either of the three, they gave away draft picks for nothing to try to negotiate with them

Malone signed a seven year 31.5 million dollar deal with Tampa.
Roberts signed a one year deal for about 2 million with Tampa.
Rolston signed a four year 20 million dollar deal with New Jersey.
Ya got to get up to date. I have been waiting for this day for a long time.

From what I saw yesterday, they signed Roberts for a year at 800k plus 10k for every reg. season game he plays. Id be surprised if they signed this old fart for more than a year.

Ya, I think you are right. I wouldn't sign him at all, but a one year deal aint bad.

If they pull Mats Sundin, Marion Hossa, Jamir Jagr etc caliber players out of the water than maybe I would even think they were somewhat better. Tampa lacks a goaltender, they didn't do shit for that. Hell even Detroit picked up a solid goaltender today in Ty Conklin.

Oh ok my bad.Had to get up early for tennis today so I slept all afternoon and missed all of the signings. If the Lightning got malone that was a good acquisition. I think he is pretty over rated though. An upgrade from what they had for sure.
Roberts,blah.He's done.
Avery would be a good acquisition for a team.He is a bitch in the locker room but he is a good hockey player

They signed Kolzig who is alright as a backup. And Mike Smith is a decent goaltender. But their defense is the problem. They have all their money tied up in forwards for the next 3-4 years. And have one defensemen (Boyle) who is making 6.67 for the next five years. They might have to trade Boyle to get a couple of bodies to play back there.

Roberts one-year, with a 2.07 million dollar cap hit.

Huet is a terrible goalie. Sucked for Habs, sucked for Caps. Either Lalime or Khabibulin will do better in Chicago. Sad, since I am a 'Hawks fan.

They sure are. My only question was if they had a future in net, and I think Huet is a decent goaltender for the future. Campbell justs adds to a very good defensive corps. Might have overpaid for them, but necessary sometimes.

Huet is good enough to be a consistent playoff contender. I don't know if he is a Cup winning goaltender, but he is definitely in the top half of the league.

I thought Kolzig was going to retire
He is so done.Kinda feel bad for a guy when everyone knows he is washed up but he is still trying to play.I guess if someone is still offering him money to play hockey it would be hard to turn that down and retire

Doesn't make any sense. They should take 9 of it, and offer it to Hossa if they really want a big time player.
But it seems that Hossa is down to Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Edmonton so I don't think the Canucks are serious about Hossa.

Hossa fits the Oilers team/style more. The Oilers will never go anywhere w/ Roloson. They have no D. Currently their offense isn't good enough. Hemsky/Horcoff can't carry an offense.

Roloson is done. They are going to have Garon as there starter. Still don't have much faith in him either though
