Local food banks, local no-kill animal shelters, Red Cross, Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust and the Mikee Memorial Foundation which is a charity we cranked up back in 1996 after the death of my best friend. Think we listed a little less than $4,500 in cash donations to those charities in 2007.

I hear you, youngsc. The Red Cross is getting less and less of our money because of how much they've spent on 'administrative costs' over the years. But there are ways to go through the Red Cross and make sure that most of your donation reaches someone or some issue that really needs it. I got turned on to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust a few years ago when a good friend's son was in Iraq and she was donating her time as a physical therapist to a couple of base hospitals in San Antonio. That charity is about as solid as they come among the veterans charities. And one thing I'm really proud of when it comes to the Mikee Memorial Foundation is in the last 12 years we've doled out about $30,000 to kids in need without a single dime being used for 'administrative costs.'

just personal opinion that i think everyone should earn what they want with what they are given. Some are lucky and start with more some don't. Life isn't about equality.

Sadly I'm a bit of a pessimistic asshole if you met me so, maybe it's the personality that makes me believe that. Or maybe it's my belief that life amounts to nothing.

After working with a charity organization it made me never trust them again. The amount of money you give and the amount of money that is directly received for the cause you think it is, is pathetic. I'm more of a materialistic giver. I'll go buy the homeless guy a blanket and bread, but I won't give anyone my money.
