Does anyone here actually think that when hotheaded managers go balistic on the umps that they will give the team they screwed a favorable call shortly there after to make up for a bad call?
I'm definitely going to say it works like that in hockey where the refs don't even have to be screamed at by the coach that's team was screwed.usually no more than a minute passes and the ref that blew the call, evens it out by calling a questionable penalty on the other team. The refs in the NHL have a conscience and pride themselves as not being biased where they turn the fortunes of games on bad calls.
In baseball the umps hold long standing grudges and will continue to screw the team they screwed if they get abusive treatment. If I were Pinella and Gardenhire, two notorious in your face with the umps types that get ejected the most,I would find other ways to make the umps take notice when you feel you are being hosed. Why not get familiar with the umps family life and come storming out from the dugout and instead of spraying spit and arguing viamently, ask how his kid Mike is doing at Penn State or how his wifes catering business is doing or if his father is catching his share of Pike at the families summer cabin in the Catskills.
I would be willing to bet the umps would be hard pressed to get pissed off as easily or exact revenge on a manager like that. You might get a little favoritism.Kindness and off the wall humor might be better than threats and curses. You could put a show on for the crowd by scuffing dirt and making it look like you are shouting and grimacing while saying nice things and the umps would probably double over laughing at you.
