Manny being Manny or just double standards?????
How come when Chacon pushes down a team employee, he gets suspended and released and possibly blackballed. Yet when Manny does the same thing, it's just Manny being Manny?

Maybe it’s something in the water in Houston.

Days after Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon tackled general manger Ed Wade in the home clubhouse at Minute Maid Park, the visitors clubhouse was the scene of another player-club employee altercation Saturday afternoon.

Manny Ramirez shoved Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground in an argument over Ramirez’ ticket allotment. Several onlookers moved quickly to separate the two.

Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night’s Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games.

When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: “Just do your job!”

An argument ensued and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the ground.

Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted the gesture. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez.

Asked on Sunday to comment on the altercation, Ramirez responded: “That’s over. We’re fine now.”

“Sometimes things happen,” said Terry Francona, “and when they do, we choose to handle them internally. I’m satisfied with how we handled this.

Added McCormick: “It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and it’s over with as far as I’m concerned.”

Simple.... Manny is a lock for the hall of fame... Chacon is barely good enough to be in the majors

If Manny was a average player they would suspend him for sure. Double standards are the standard.

First off he pushed a secretary over some tickets, which is a jackass thing to do and should've gotten him suspended but Chacon literally started a fight after refusing to talk with his coach and GM and the fight was with the Astros GM, I mean fuk that's like working for Microsoft and starting a fight with Bill Gates, you might get away with pushing a secretary but if you fight the GM prepare to be blackballed. Also as already stated Manny is 50x the ballplayer Chacon is and since they were probably going to release Chacon at end of the season anyway his psychotic episode just sped things up a few months. Manny = irreplaceable, Chacon = waste of a million dollars even signing him to a one-year contract in the first place

          Both.

Manny is a first ballot HOF'er. Chacon is a back end of the rotation guy.

Of course it's a double standard. Manny should have been suspended. But as we all know, talent wins out just about every time.

Jimmy Johnson once said something to the effect, "When the third string guard is five minutes late for a meeting, I cut him. When Emmitt Smith is five minutes late, I reset the clock."

With Big Papi out of the line up and the Tampa Rays now in first place by 1/2 a game, if you think the Red Sox are going to suspend Manny for anything short of murder...It just ain't a gonna happen.

This is great news for Chacon. Players Asociation will have a field day with this.

Wait till Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson get a hold of this story. That's all I'm saying.

I don't see how this helps Chacon at all.

Well to me the situation is a little diffrent....Chacon tackled or choked or whatever he did to a GM. Manny did it to a traveling secretary. Big diffrences in Job title(and power).

Just go choke the GM of any major corporation and see how far that gets ya.

Plus you have to admit, that in Manny's case, it just seems a little bit funnier.

Maybe it's just me, but he makes me laugh no matter what he does. He is so aloof. Sometimes when he's in the outfield, you wonder what he might be thinking about. It doesn't look like baseball.

Picturing him telling some secretary to do his job and shoving him down makes me LOL.

A double standard? Really? I just can't believe that, why it's a known fact that justice is blind and never, ever is there a different set of rules for the empowered and the privileged.

Of course there's a double standard. One only has to read back to last week and the comments that a former MLB GM made just after the Chacon incident. Does anyone believe that there aren't other GMs who believe exactly as Steve Phillips noted?

"It's one thing to manage a player who's a great talent but can be a problem; it's a different story when you're a marginal pitcher and also a problem." - - - ESPN analyst and former general manager Steve Phillips

It's just another standard extra base hit (double).

A lawyer will run with it. Chacon will get his money.
