I wish the market would drop 2000 points. I'd drop every dime I got into my account. People would sell their gold to raise money to buy stocks, the cost of gold would drop and I could afford to get in before prices rose again.

Yep, hit the nail on the head. To this day, the most shares of stock I ever purchased in a single day was when the market reopened after 9/11. Easiest money I've ever made.
In stocks, as in sports, betting against the public is the easiest way to make money with the least amount of effort.

Who has money in a bank to begin with? Shit, I have more than an average amount of cash and I dont have anything in a bank account, my wife has one and that thing is less than 3K most of the time and her pay check is that much every 2 weeks. Get a safe in your house and call it good. All having cash around does is let them track you anyway. Have just enough cash flow to pay your bills and show zero balance or as close to zero balance as you can. And sometimes take a loss for tax purposes if you dont have a good accountant.
But seriously who would have a bank account anyway? If you get a check take it and a couple forms of ID and cash it for cash straight from the guys bank. But I assume some people here have a steady job, so get d i r e c t d e p o s i t have a bill pay account and transfer what you need for bills into that and then take the left over out. do just enough to show a positive cash flow and ability to pay your bills. Nothing wrong with being 'broke' its when youre in debt and cant pay some issues start. Seriously, being broke is the best thing you could be identified with right now.
EDIT....cant believe it edits out DD

Even if it does drop quadruple digits, it will just get artificially propped up in the immediate future and then plummet again when the day of reckoning arrives.
That's been the pattern basically every year since the first huge implosion in '98.

The stock market has been on a tear the past few years. It was going to correct at some point. As soon as John Q gets a bunch of money in the pot, the big boys are gonna pull profit and make some on the downside too. Standard.

All I encourage is for people to be prudent. If someone feels their best bet is to stuff their money under their mattress and hide in a bunker, then knock yourself out!

I'm trying to figure out the point of even having a 401(k) now.
I've had one for about 5-6 years and it's basically been like stuffing money in a mattress -- at best. I can't imagine anyone's 401(k) looking very good if you spanned the past decade.

Hahahahahah you people are funny
So tell me this... What is gold worth when no one has monetary money to pay for it? Is a gold bar worth your last meal? Is a gold bar worth a gun and ammo? Is a gold bar going to pay your taxes when the X government annexes it?
Something to think about because gold is not valuable.

8-12% this year depending on the month, talk to your adviser about hedging bull and bear markets.

Doesn't this make long-term stock market investing look foolish though opie?
I understand the value in short-term buying/investing, but I'd say the days of "set it and forget it" are over for your average Joe. In fact, I think they've been over for a while now. People who were happy that their 401(k)'s recovered all of the losses from '08 are about to lose it all back again.
