You are indeed a sucker. The reason is that you "throw a fiver" at the cashier for quick picks. You want to have that "dream" of winning and you think it's a fun/healthy dream as opposed to a harmful one, then throw a "one'er" at the cashier. While it's true if you buy five quick picks you have FIVE TIMES better chance of winning, it's also true that you have NO better chance (essentially) of winning than if you just buy one. Sounds contradictory but it isn't - this illustrates just how impossible it is to win. You could buy one hundred quick picks and have a hundred times better chance to win than me with my one ticket, but we both got no shot. What matters is that I have 99 more dollars than you do.

tl;dr version: If you "hafta" - then just buy one ticket.

Lottery odds suck, not because it's such a longshot but because of the piece the government takes out to fund "education" which is really just code for politicians using your lottery money to buy votes to get reelected. It's a total scam...but when I'm drunk at the gas station I sometimes get those win for life scratch offs just for the instant satisfaction..but I do feel like an idiot doing that and admitting I do it. REally?? you know anybody that got tuition paid by the lottery administration? They put that on the tickets, but it just goes into the general fund for the state so politicians can spend the money how they want. Maybe there are some states that actually put it towards what they say they do but not mine.

Lighten up dude its only 5 bucks and yes they fund college tuitions with the money, lookup HOPE scholarship, they've donated billions of dollars to education so apparently Im a philanthropist instead of just a sucker praying for the big payoff

I do agree that they should not have a monopoly on the lotto as competition would certainly lead to better payoffs (for instance a pick 3 has odds of 1-1000 but only a payoff of 500-1 which is fuckin criminal) but at least the money goes to fund education rather than all the cash I've given to my bookie to fund shoving his rooster into more prostitutes


The odds of hitting the Powerball tomorrow are 1 in 195 million, since I wisely bought 5 tickets I've lowered my odds to 1 in 39 million (about the odds of getting struck by lightning twice)
