It is called not a strong core of players anymore, the game is watered down.

Women's game is really weak atm - Hingis/Henin/Clijsters/Capriati retired, Williams/Williams/Davenport/Mauresmo weakening to age. Of the 32 slams 2000-2007, the bundle above won 28 of them. If you exclude 2004, when Sharapova/Kuzzy/Myskina had a weird blip and won three, the last outside the above was Mary Pierce in 2000.
Basically all the really good players are gone, and we're left with some decent but raw/inexperienced types (and of lower talent imo).

Nice post. The favs are very inflated in this tournament. Any 20 year old can beat other 20 year olds any time. These girls are amateurs. They make more in commercials than winning matches so place your bets wisely.

The WTA like the ATP works on a points system. Ivanovic will lose her #1 ranking after her early exit and we will get a new #1. There is no clear #1 on the women's side ever since Henin retired.

She may keep #1 because Sharapova is out. If Jankovic wins she might take it.
If some unseeded ho wins, then she might keep #1 spot.
Women's tennis is b.s.
They are weak physically and mentally

#1 players don't jerk a tear between games when there's still an opportunity for them to take over a match. I'm not sure if it was playing 3 hours the other day, or just a lack of confidence, or the fact that her in-game adjustments or preparation seemed awful, but she was flat in every sense of the word.
It wasn't a question of her talent or being out classed, because that's a match she will win most of the time, and SHOULD win most of the time given her talent advantage, but she simply didn't have the mental focus or rhythm down whatsoever today.... No intensity..

I never said Jankovic is #1, or deserves to be. Just saying that for Ivanovic to lose #1, a close competitor has to do very well this tournament.
Scary to put a lot of $$ on any female at -200 or worse. They are way too unstable.

Ivanovic just didn't show up. Well, someone showed up, but it certainly wasn't the RG Champion. It wasn't even anything particularly wrong with her, she just got frustrated, and didn't fight hard enough. She looked so deflated between games, as if she was already defeated. That's not the same Ana that came back in semis in RG, there was NONE of that fight there...
Her preparation obviously wasn't what it needed to be, I don't know if she was on her period or what but she literally looked like she was jerking a tear after losing the first set and getting broken in the 2nd.

Your going to see more of this in the womans game, there are no dominant players anymore.
