Are 200 People Actually Watching Tennis Worldwide?
Growing trend of so called top players losing early in events, the sport is in serious trouble especially in America. What is killing game is sponsors throwing tons of money at players and they become so rich they lose the motivation to compete anymore, why do you think some top players are leaving game so young. Tennis is deadier than the NHL in America.

Tennis is getting pretty shady.I always knew that there were a big chunk of matches that were fixed and then the davy thing came out and that really hurt the sport as far as betting goes. Still alot of money bet on the matches though so I don't think that will ever stop.
What has become stupid is the amount of money that players are paid for losing matches. For example, I think they said that the loser of the first round at wimbledon this year makes $30,000 or something like that.So basically there were alot of players that were injured and probably shouldn't have played but they go to wimbledon anyways and get killed first round or even retire like 7 or so players have done so far this year and they get there $30,000 cheque.

I will take Over 199.5, sir. That seems safe enough. Americans can hate tennis and soccer all they like and we can even pretend the rest of the world cares, if it makes us feel any better.

And I doubt that it is shadier than it used to be, we just happen to have found a way to catch them every so often. People respond to incentives.

Nothing wrong with tennis - personally I think the men's game is better than it has been since the 80s. The women's game is in a bit of a dip though, with so many top players leaving the game at one time (Hingis/Henin/Clijsters, and age catching up with the Williams/Davenport).

The problem in the US simply comes down to the lack of good American players. The game has changed from the old 90s mono-dimensional serve-dominated power game, yet look at the Americans in the top100: Roddick, Blake, Fish, Querrey, Ginepri, Isner, Young, Odesnik, Reynolds. Not an ounce of craft or imagination between them. They're all built to play in the 90s.

The US Open is one of my favorites. The crowds in NY are great for that event. Much better than the snooty Euro crowds for the French & Wimbledon.

Just look what sponsors did to Kornakova. Used to be top notch, now she just poses for a camera.
