Now millions are screwed with more unemployed, uncomfortable at their jobs not knowing if
they will have one tomorrow and retirement funds dried up. What, you think they will get
over it and start spending? Wrong!

The only thing it was going to affect was the bond market and 10yr and 30yr bond yields dropped drastically and short term treasury notes actually had a NEGATIVE yield for a while, telling anybody with a brain that it wasn't worried about the debt ceiling or having America's credit rating downgraded.

SS and Medicare not only need to be cut, but they need to be phased out completely as they are the largest ponzi schemes in history.

The black sliver is what the "debt deal" actually cuts out off of the national debt though when you double the national debt in the next decade calling it a cut is rather unfactual.

Start today......tell the people that if you are under 50 years old then sorry but you have to sacrifice for past decisions of ignorance and will not collect any SS or Medicare. People 50-65 will receive limited benefits extapolated by their age and those 65+ will continue receiving their benefits as they currently do. Revamp unemployment benefits, Medicaid, welfare, food stamps, Section 8, SSI, Disability, etc to a 26 week maximum continuous benefit and a 52 week maximum lifetime benefit. Nobody should be guaranteed a free place to live, free food, free healthcare, and pocket money because they refused to obtain a free education or a useful job skill or refuse to work a job that pays an equivalent to the few skills they bring to the table. The lazy and poor and mentally challenged can depend of their family, friends, and tax-exempt churches and charities to support them. If they refuse then Social Darwinism will begin to clean up the excesses in this country. Short term pain is going to be the only way to long term sustainability.

Even working at minimum wage here in Canada there are no taxes, full insurance premiums for medicare, and best of all its really easy to find one of these jobs, IN CALGARY, they pay super duper high wages that goes up to 50k-60k per year because they are in the midst of development. Your response here has been bothering me for days. I've tried to let it go, but can't. And the thing about humor is, when you have to explain it lessens the affect.

You see your reply shows either a lack of comprehension or a void of conceptual thought.

The quote works on many levels. It critiques the target in a humorous fashion.

On an idea level, it works because it takes an idea (socialism) that the speaker finds flawed. It exposes these flaws without the mountains of statistical data that prove it is a poor structure for any government, but by adding texture to it by presenting with in the context of 2 other ideas.

Or we could look at the concepts of the quote. The concepts of heaven and hell are universally known. The vast majority of people alive have a concept of Heaven or Nirvana or Utopia or whatever. Likewise, the vast majority of people alive have a concept of Hell or Hades or Detroit or whatever. So when you fail to use the concepts, but attempt to understand the speakers' intent by applying a literal definition to the words you completely miss the masterful and witty slam on socialism.

It is a near perfect line. You know, on par with "You're so Vain". How do you defend yourself against "you probably think this song is about you" when it is about you? That is the beauty of that song. Not a catchy chorus or beat, but the wit behind the rebuke.
