Exactly. If you listened to his interview after he was pulled, he said that he couldn't think about baseball during that first inning because he thought he wasn't going to be pitching today. He found out late that he was pitching and couldn't get into his routine. He was thinking about the trade throughout the first inning and was not concentrated on throwing strikes and getting guys out.

You just got unlucky. Had the trade been finalized a little earlier, he would have not pitched at all in the game.
