    Sorry guys....another dumb question.....
    Sorry again for this..
I phoned my sportsbook today and wanted to make a large wager........The over/under limits are $5000. So I wagered $4000 on the bluejays over, they said no I can only bet $3000. I asked about the 5000 limit and they said I don't qualify for it. They asked if I had an agent......AGENT???? What the frick is an agent???. I know Crosby, Lebron, and Brady have one. PLease explains this guys........Thanks again

They may think you're a professional athlete, and lowered your limits for fear of having inside information, so they're inquiring to speak with your sports agent.

An agent is a person that sets you up with a book(s), they also can extend you credit to play there. It's rumored for instance that Pinnacle has many agents working in the US.

            Marigold,

The only dumb question is one that isn't asked.

Books have limits for 2 reasons: 1. Limit how much they lose to "wise guys", and 2. Limit their exposure on a game, regardless of who bets it.

What book is it? There aren't a lot of books that take 5k on an MLB total. If they refused their posted limit, they think you are a wise guy (or the game might have been circled).

Care to share what book it was?

Probably made yourself look like more of a wise guy by feigning naivete...

Don't sweat it, just go through Bookmaker directly and you should be able to get down the posted limits..

Good luck buddy... Better to just wager medium anyway, reserve those large plays for something really worth it..

your absolutely right...Will cash out and play small, like the fun old days. Large bet ruin my day.....Can't work, eat, bang old lady, think etc..50-100 plays casually.

If they brought up the term "agent"

Why not ask for an explanation of what they mean

                                Marigold,

If your first bet with a book was 4k, their first thoughts are "Who is this guy? Is he bearding for someone?" That's a bigger bet than most recreational players will make.

DSI is part of the Cris family. They are safe and fair (although their withdrawal fees suck).

Um, excuse me, but aren't agents like, what's the word, ILEGAL?

It is probably not a good idea to talk about agents and identify the book by name in an open forum.

An agent is a bookie who sets you up with an account at the sportsbook. The agent is actually responsible for paying you. They are an illegal bookie who pays fees to the sportsbook to book your bets and make the lines, etc. Pretty much they set a limit for you and it gets wiped clean every week when you settle up with your agent/bookie.
