Okay, I have to share because I'm still fuming about this.
My parents point out to me a promotion going on at Hooters; $100 FREE SLOT PLAY IF YOU SIGN UP FOR OUR PLAYER'S CARD.
Obviously, there must be some kind of a catch. But with time to burn, me and my buddy headed over there to see what the deal was.
Some scenarios I was expecting...
1) A roped off area for "freeplay slots only" that were rigged not to pay out much
2) A big rollover type of thing if you wanted to cash out (like, say, 10 points = $1 cash out)
3) Maybe, just maybe, an entirely fair proposition.
1 and 2 seemed likely, but I think 3 is great PR. They pay $100 to put me on their mailing and calling list. In all likelihood, most people will give you back what they win anyway. Plus they might be so impressed with the bonus that they respect the casino and consider it in the future. The people that take your money and run are outweighed by the people that give it back and then some, in my opinion.
Anyway, it was far, far worse.
You sign up, and then are escorted to a roped off area with about 24 slots in it. Here, you pick a slot you want to play. Each of these slots is a $2 slot. After choosing, the slot woman puts $100 in the machine for you. You now have 50 credits to play with.
Naturally, I asked, at what point can we cash out? Thats when she pointed to the piece of paper taped onto the slot.
"EARN 1700 CREDITS AND WIN $50"
Remember, this is a standard slot machine; With 2 coins, Bar Bar Bar pays 20, 7 7 7 pays 100, etc.
So you actually have to take $100 and play it up to $3400... one of the sickest runs of all time I might add... to get $50.
Every sap in this gated off area looked miserable. There is no way in hell that any of them will ever visit Hooters again, and all will tell their friends not to.
Worst PR promotion I've ever seen.
