Before there was off-shore players used locals. At one time I had as many as three. A gambling buddy of mine was hooked up with one of the bigger outfits at that time. Tom {that the name I'll use here} was in his 20's, Italian and very good looking, with a wife and two kids and a pregnant girlfriend on the side. His style was nickel and dime bets on football games. I'm lifting at the gym one Sunday afternoon and watching a football game between sets when Tom approaches me. " I really need the 49ers to cover, brother ". The 49er's were 13 pt favorites against Cleveland at home. { These were the days the 49er's had Montana and were one of the best in the league.} Tom appeared happy the 49ers were up by 17 in the second quarter but I could see the stress in his eyes."How much are you in?" I asked. He explained he was having a bad week and loved this game . He had two working parley's plus he pressed it with a three dime straight wager on the 49er's. That was his style to be aggressive but the parlays were a sign he was in trouble because that was the first time he'd ever mentioned playing parlays. We parted ways and I finished my workout by halftime. I wouldn't see Tom for another ten years.
Cleveland scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to get a back door cover. Tom was no where to be found in the following months ahead. I asked his younger brother what happened and got no response. He was with Tom's wife and there two young childern and seemed to be carrying the weight on the world on his young shoulders. Much later I learned Tom was living in Texas.
Many moons later I'm standing in line at the orleans sports book when a voice from the past echo's something about a baseball run line parlay. I turn around and there's Tom, beer in hand buffed to the max and very happy. "I got married again" {it turns out to yet a different woman entirely} and " I own a business in the ------- Hotel."
Which I thought was strange. The topic of the past came up." I had to leave town or I was history" he said. I didn't press the issue but I knew what he was saying. His younger brother was still with his first wife, his ex girlfriend left him while they were living in Texas and took their daughter with her. He had two childern with his current wife and was coaching a softball team in Vegas. "No more childern I've taken care of that" he laughed.
Moral of this story. "Be careful with sports betting .It can get you into big trouble if you're not careful.

That's one of the benefits of owning a house in Santa Barbara.

Happenes to all of us. You'll be fine so long as you don't cut into essential funds. Ensure you only play wth disposable cash.

Yeah I'm glad I use offshores and nothing personal. I'm pretty responsible with my money but if you get that itch and credit it could be very bad. On the flip side it might be kinda fun to be that "collector" maybe that's the Italian in me IDK.
