Goddamn this sucks. He was my favorite, much smarter than your typical comedian, his stuff started to slip late in life but I'll always remember him for how awesome he was..
RIP George

unreal, i just saw his act a few days ago.. well, i had never seen anyone put down GOD and HEAVEN like this guy. he was a proud atheist. he used to always say, there is no god, and there is no heaven.. he hated religion..
well george, i guess your question has been answered now if there really is a heaven or not.. only you know now..
he was a great comedian and very sharp.

Aside from Johnny Carson, I think George Carlin is the first comedian I was ever aware of. His "Take-offs and Put-ons" is one of the first albums I ever listened to. Anyone remember the "Hippy-Dippy Weatherman?"

Simply one of the best all-time. I can't believe he's gone.
To paraphrase the also late, great humanist Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. "George is up in heaven now."

Someone I always looked up to and admired, a huge part of and influence on the counterculture in the 60s. There's a little less laughter in the world right now.

He was probably my favorite comedic personality growing up in the late '70's and '80's.

I can believe he's gone. Guy was 71, former drug addict. Lucky he made this far.

I know this sounds stupid, but you wonder HOW MUCH drugs contribute to an early death like this. If he didn't do blow, would he still be alive?

78 is the average life expectancy in the United States. 71 is not young, but it's still kind of early.

What's the average life span of a comedian? Those guys burn the candle at both ends and in the middle too.
RIP George. My favorite memory of George was when he was on some talk show with Woopie Goldberg and made her cry by talking about how God doesn't exist. It was hilarious.

Wow, I just saw this thread and hadn't heard the news. George Carlin was my favourite comedian all time. Later on in life his philosophy became very sharp. When I was around 10 or 11 in the 70's, much to the dismay of some of the adults in my family, I had memorized a couple of his albums (cassette tape actually) and repeated them often. I can still vaguely recall his "Biff Barf" character doing the run down of the sports scores (I'm sure it is not 100% correct):
"CalTech 6.4, MIT 3 to the 4th power"
"William & Mary 14, Nick and Tony 105"
"And here is a partial score, Stanford 17"
Goodbye George
