I'd love to say Mash or Taxi or All in the Family or Cheers, but as much as I want to be old school, I believe Seinfeld was actually a superior show.

For the obscure under-appreciated series I'll go with the Joss Whedon's sci-fi-western Firefly. Better than any Star Trek incarnation in my opinion.

Firefly was awesome. The movie was really amazing too. Arrested Development is another show that was way too good yet still got canceled because it never got mainstream enough.

Entourage needs to be on this list too. More contemporary, but still good.

Soap was really good

Good one, have just about all of the episodes on DVD now.

MASH and All in the Family the first few seasons they were on were fantastic. MASH was still good in the end, but it had lost its dark comedy structure by then and become just a platform for Alan Alda to discuss his politics. I've got 202 of the 251 episodes either on tape or DVD, so it's pretty obvious that I love that show.

One that I really liked that is from a while back but at least more recent than MASH was Northern Exposure. Have a few seasons of that one on DVD as well.

A few British shows also would make my list of best of: Blackadder, Faulty Towers and of course Monty Python's Flying Circus.
