I say it's hands down the younger the generation, the more you were hosed by everything from the government, banking system, taxes, regulations, high tuitions, high cost of everything and sucky dysfunctional culture that will provide them heartache.etc.etc.

You hear so many older people collecting entitlements saying how rough they had it growing up in the depression and it's a joke.So what do they do,they want meals and wheels, free pills and someone to come over to their house to cut their toe nails with medicare paying for it.

I could make a zillion observations as to why the older generations are full of bull shit when it comes to them saying they had it so rough in life compared to the youngest generations today.

Screwing up because of bad decision making taken not into consideration, just look at all the terrible problems posters here have in life that weren't even on the radar screen when people that are in their 60's,70's80's and 90's had when they were in their prime.

I know people who are in their 80's who speak broken English and can't read or write that made a few million bucks buying lakeshore land with tiny meager wages when they were in their 20's.Now if a kid with a doctorates degree wanted to buy 1/20th of a piece of land that size it would cost years worth of expendable income savings.

The new generation is in serious trouble, parents of these kids are going to be broke therefore a financial disaster will occurr.

Parents I say the last 40 years or so have carried for the most part their children with inheritances, ect. Now the new parent is broke and save nothing and blowing everything therefore there kids are going to have it real ahrd in life and have no head start.

Dude the older generation had it so much harder it aint even close. I'm just shy of 50 and I saw things as a kid that the younger generation cant even begin to ponder. Outhouses some with corn cobbs. Zero electronics but a few 'lucky' ones had a small black and white TV. Didnt matter because there wasnt much programing. Schools had neither a/c or heat and you walked and you walked. I could go on about what I saw which included black and white water fountains but I will just say the kids of today have it soooo much easier its really not even close.

I think it depends on how you look at it. Older generations had to go through tougher times-- poorer understanding and control of money supply led to prolonged economic recessions/depression. Plus they had wars they had to fight in with drafts, etc. On the other hand, people who are currently old, on balance, are getting far more out of the government than they ever put in through taxes (principally through social security and medicare). The current generation will not get as much out of government services as they are putting in through the tax system. The current setup is unsustainable-- it will be impossible to raise taxes on future generations sufficient to fund social security and medicare going forward.

i definitely think older generations, i know when we would visit my great grandparents in the country i couldn't believe as a kid that my grandma lived in this little 2 room farm house with her parents and 9 siblings, i also couldn't believe i had to go to a well and get water and use an old outhouse.
I also remember my middle school was old, i think it was built in like 1906, my elementary and high school were newer so they had central heating and air, but my middle school was hot in the beginning and end of each school year, all we had was ceiling fans, and in winter everyone tried to sit closest to the old steam radiators or whatever they were so you wouldn't freeze, i remember always wearing coats in class in the winter, we envied the kids who got to go to the other middle schools that were newer.
now about money, older people learned to be more frugle i think, probably because of the hardships and times, but when the decade of decadence of the 80's rolled in, i think baby boomers have bought into that whole more more more way of life, people get the biggest house they THINK they can afford, eat out, run credit cards up, etc., people try and live beyond their means by trying to keep up with the Jones's. This whole go go go type way of life is killing us. We as a culture now might live in excess, but i think are amenities are way better still than the older generations.
plus medical advancements have come along way, older people had to deal with TB, Polio, etc.

Good reads Cat and Kid. Excellent observations. Imagine kids in classrooms where it is 45 degrees writing with gloves on. This is certainly better and easier now.
