Played High school baseball in Tampa[hillsborough]and you could tell then how he was going to be something special.Really is a sad story.

Not sad at all...

When you are that good at something...the lows are equally low. Most people only dream of being that good and that is what makes them think it is sad...they think..if i was that good,..I would not be a crack head...lol.

Certainly not sad. Gooden had so much talent, and a lot of it he wasted. A blue collar worker would surely not be given as many chances as Gooden was to turn his life around. Do I hope he can turn his life around? Of course. Do I feel sorry for him? No.

dont know why i remember this...but i was in high school at the time...i live in RI and am a lifelong sox fan....but i used to listen to WFAN quite a bit back in the day...would even fall asleep to it...i woke up in the middle of the night to a 20/20 sportsflash the night he pitched a no no with the yanks....that and the night of the olympic bombing in atl....so strange

Half that 1986 Mets team ruined their lives.

NYC in the mid 1980's was party central, everybody had money, Dykstra, Hernandez, Doc, Straw, four or five others were closing down every bar in Long Island and NYC on a nightly basis.

Straw, Keith and Dykstra were making 4 trips to the bathroom an hour, and it wasn't for hummers or to pee.
Their money was no good in the bars, everyone was buying them rounds.
