Last year Niemann was easily better at home.

He's only had 5 starts at home this year. Too small of a sample size to claim he struggles at home beyond just random variance.

Fair enough...but you have to give some credence to a current trend that has been consistent all year. Anyway, that was not my only reason for the play, but merely one aspect. Hope all Boston backers cash..good luck!

Too small a sample size to claim he was truly better at home last year. Park factors are the only reason why pitchers' true performances differ by park. Maybe the cowbells made his fastball better?

My point is that if one were to say he's better on the road, it'd have to be backed up by prior seasons, and it isn't.

Since he was better at home last year, you can't then say he's now a road pitcher and can't pitch well at home.

Some pitchers do happen to pitch better in certain ballparks (different than the league average), but you need a large pool of evidence to back that up.

Niemann is likely just random variance, considering that he was better at home last season.

No...I know. I never said that he was a better pitcher on the road or at home. All I said is that he has struggled at home this year. Not that he was a bad pitcher at home his entire career. I was pointing out a season trend, not a lifetime trend. I do agree that he will probably regress to his career averages at home for the rest of the year.

Now, let's get at least two runs from Boston in the top of the 11th and go to bed with some extra money in our pockets.
