I don't know much about soccer but having watched a few penalty shootouts I would say it is basically complete luck, except maybe on that one kick where the Croatian guy missed the entire goal, talk about choking but other than a complete miss it's pure luck the ball is traveling too fast too close, half the time they don't dive in the right direction

It's more like they dive first hoping the ball will be kicked in that direction. Most good penalty kickers aim dead center after the goalie has dived. You need to time it perfectly though.

Ah man, I went bust on croatia in regular time. Gotta send out a sorry for the bad beat to Pavy, man that sucks. I am in shock at what I just saw. That's a horrible bad beat.

What a GUTSY performance by rustu, I thought he was good enough all game and then blew it... I felt bad for him, he was playing his heart out. But man, what f'n heart Turkey has. They just fight and fight and fight and fight. I still can't believe what I just saw (had to watch it on tivo, had an appointment right as the 2nd extra time was starting, sucked). I was getting up to turn the damn thing off and BAM, TURKEY GOAL! Unreal. Unreal. Unreal. Rasputin lives on in the Turkish side.

It's the third time in a row I got beat in injury time. Poland, Czech and now Croatia. That has to be a world record. Netherlands tomorrow will pick up the slack for us. It will be an exciting game tomorrow. I'm rooting for a 4-2 Netherlands win.

I think fireworks are in order for that game... Definitly is another great matchup. Teams I figured were dead in the water and moving on. Netherlands are just playing too well and are much more experienced in top level competition.

I just saw the overtime. Was at work when the game was on. The ref will be sanctioned by UEFA. He called the first overtime 10 seconds short, yet he allowed almost 2 min in second overtime without any injuries. This was like a highway robbery.

There is no stoppage time for celebrations. If Croatia scored at 119' he shouldn't have left 2 min stoppage time.
