If you haven't already heard of him, introducing Pat Venditte, currently pitching for the Staten Island Yankees. He's thrown one inning so far in the minors, one hit, one K, no runs.

Heard about this guy before, HG. Do you know if he chunked exclusively from one side or the other in that outing or did he switch it up? Freaky looking mitt.

Oh, and God bless the ambidextrous

He switched it up. And actually, there was a pretty funny at-bat where he faced a switch-hitter. He started out righty, the other guy jumped over to lefty, he went lefty, the other guy went righty, he went righty, the other guy went lefty, he went lefty, the other guy went righty, he went righty, the other guy went lefty, he went lefty, the other guy went righty, he went righty, the other guy went lefty, and well you get the idea, it went on and on and on like that, kind of like a Presidential race.

Eventually, the ump and everyone else was like "chill chill chill chill chill" and somehow decided what to do, I don't know how they did, but Venditte wound up getting to throw righty, and the hitter wasn't allowed to switch. That was the guy he struck out.

The rules are clear on who has to declare first, but I don't know which side has to declare.

Not sure as to the exact wording of the rule; will try to find it somewhere. But I believe that once the pitcher becomes set and ready to deliver, the batter cannot just hop over to the other side. I'll look it up.

God bless google and the umpires

                Rules...

6.02 (b) The batter shall not leave his position in the batter's box after the pitcher comes to the set position, or starts his windup.

6.06 (b) (A batter is out for illegal action when) He steps from one batter's box to the other while the pitcher is in position ready to pitch.
