i got a warning letter from internet provider
they were contacted about me downloading a movie
the letter states i "might" be sued
it also just tells me to stop whatever i'm doing
this is the only movie i've ever downloaded
    i've downloaded tons of music

funny thing is i downloaded it thinking i could watch it on my pc and i couldnt
i just had audio so i deleted it
i didnt burn it to dvd
anyone else ever get a letter like this or get sued?

Yes. I actually posted about this a while ago, I got the same one. Here's what I wrote regarding this.

I was sent a letter from my ISP, attached with a letter from FOX alerting them someone with my IP had downloaded a movie, etc. This was over 1.5 years ago. I never heard from them again so I'm assuming they didn't bother to follow up on it.

Since then I've cleaned my computer of any P2P like a pussy, and haven't downloaded any torrents or songs either. I had never received a warning from music though, only when using the movie/software torrents. Am I safe to resume using things like Limewire?

What internet provider do you both have?
Stay away from Comcast, they are the majority of complaints.

I have Roadrunner, I've downloaded everything imaginable with no consequences.

Interesting. I just downloaded a movie, for the first time ever, last night, and was thinking that I'm totally out of touch with this stuff; that I have no idea what (realistically) the consequences could be.

FWIW I've received no follow up in the mail, but I've cut out the movie downloading and basically just stream youtube or occasionally pay 99 cents a song on i Tunes.

Okay, I've been hearing rumors about HBO and Showtime series since last year with the new Entourage season so I have been using private trackers since then.

Try using a private tracker like ilovetorrents or something like that, companies never pick out IP's from private sites because it's too much of a hassle. If you use places like limewire and eztv it's much too easy to get the ip's.
