Most blown out of proportion news story, Russert death?Tiger Woods?
I didn't mind Russert but it seems like his death was a wee bit over reported and over eulogized?I think the post office was ready to get another day off this year and for ever after on the anniversary of his death the way things were going.

Then there was the double barreled Tiger Woods stories.First his big win, then the knee surgery ending his season.

All this stuff getting attention when gas is $4 a gallon and the economy, federal reserve etc.are whooping the average persons rear end.

Sort of agree with you on the Russert story, Brent. From everything I've ever read or heard about him even before his death, he was genuinely liked and respected and he was obviously intelligent (in my opinion). But my goodness, the networks covered his death for a few days there as if he were some head of state. And you know that behind the scenes, a whole bunch of talkin' head wannabe's at NBC were scurrying about trying to push their way into his vacated chair.

Tiger Woods being off the tour for at least 6-9 months will end up having a far greater effect on more people than Russert's death ever will. I realize that sounds very disrespectful to Russert plus his family and true friends who are no doubt mourning their loss. But a year from now, will anyone be talking that much about Russert or whoever takes his place, or will people be talking about how Tiger won another US Open or failed to defend his US Open title?

The Russert thing is now a big freaking joke. I didn't know the guy of course, but from what I have seen in all of his Meet the Depressed, and his other interview shows, is that he wouldn't have wanted the big top circus act that has followed his death. I saw the boss last night singing a song he wrote for this event. I now expect tributes from other artist such as carrot top, babs, and of course Bret Michaels. Hell maybe they can get a shit load of musicians together like when they did the "We are the World" thing. Its been awhile since one of those. Yeah I know Jimmy Kimmel just had a "I fvcked Ben" thing but that was just a warm up for the big one named "So Long Timmy."

I'd say if anything's blown out of proportion it's the stories about the economy. Every day, recession this, recession that. Gas is so expensive. boo-effing-hoo. It's all we've been hearning for months, and here hasn't even been a single quarter, yet, of negative GDP growth.

Doesn't necessarily take negative GDP to sound the alarms for a slowed or recessive economy. Imagine a busy highway with one grandpaw driver playing the role of the left lane bandit and puttering along at 40 MPH while the rest of the drivers are traveling 70+. Yeah, gramps is moving forward, but everyone is passing him and shaking their fists or offering the one finger salute when they do.

That's because all of the government reports have either been eliminated or "fixed". Don't kid yourself the economy sucks and won't get any better for a while. Take a look at what happen to the Japs about a decade ago. We are doing the same thing here.

Why do you think we have the same situation as Japan? because they had problems in their banking sector too? So therefore our economic situation is exactly the same?

I'm not saying the economy doesn't suck-- obviously it's the worst it's been in 7 years. But it is way blown out of proportion by the media. There was a story in the newspaper talking about the difference between consumer sentiment and actual economic data is huge right now.

Apparently one argument (RageWizard's) is that the government makes up its own data, and the economy is actually worse than the numbers say. I prefer to believe that the media has blown it out of proportion and now everyone is panicking. The sad thing is that as people tighten up because of fear, it will hurt the economy even more.
