    Ron Paul retiring from Congress
To focus on white house run, sad day for liberty as he unfortunately has no chance at president.

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul made a surprise announcement Tuesday that he will not seek re-election to Congress, spelling an end to a nearly 24-year House career amid his third run for president.

"I felt it was better that I concentrate on one election," Paul, 75, told The Facts. "It's about that time when I should change tactics."
Paul, who remains significantly behind in many current national polls, first ran for president as a Libertarian in 1988, and as a Republican in 2008.
Even though both bids came up empty, Paul significantly demonstrated the power of his base in 2008, shocking national observers with his ability to quickly raise large sums of cash from loyal followers who favored his small government ideology. That same base is rallying around his 2012 efforts.
Paul told The Facts he believes he has a better shot at the presidency now than he did in 2008.
His decision leaves his Northern Gulf Coast 14th District seat up for grabs. Paul indicated to The Facts that he wanted to reveal his decision sooner rather than later, evidently to permit the field of would-be successors to plan out their 2012 races.
The district is currently regarded as solidly conservative, but Paul faced a complicated re-election campaign in 2012 due to the state's redistricting plan. The newly configured district will now include a significant number of new voters, according to reports out of Texas.
At the time the remap was being approved by the state legislature, Paul spokesman Jesse Benton gave no indication of Paul's potential retirement.
"Dr. Paul does not feel targeted, and his home county of Brazoria remains the cornerstone of the District," Benton last month told the Texas Tribune of the former obstetrician. "If anything, this is a compliment. The GOP knows Dr. Paul will win anywhere he runs, and that his electoral fortitude allows them to strengthen other districts and have no problems holding the 14th."

The only reason he wont win is that he is the only candidate willing to end wars right away, put an end to all the free hand outs, put an end to this war on drugs nonsense and pay down the debt. Most Americans are fat and lazy and want all there bailouts, tax loop holes and handouts to continue.

Paul's excuse is lame. He knew that he would have a tough re-election battle because he has gone way too far over the edge. So he "retires". This is his speed. We can only hope that his boy, Rand, has a lot more common sense than daddy has shown lately.

He hasn't lost a congressional race since the 1970s and he won the last election with 76% of the vote. Nice theory though, I bet he's real scared of not being reelected.

His district was re-drawn. I asm not saying that he would lose, but his bull s**t approach to the economy would not sell. Her is one of the most worthless Congressmen in the Capitol. Nothing he backs passes. He has not come up with a decent bill that has passed in years. His ideas are simple minded, radical, and unworkable, which is why so many simple minded people in here like him.

This means he won't have to worry about party rules and can therefore run as an indpendent or third party.

Ron Paul's ideas are not unworkable or radical, as a matter of fact they have been thought through and implemented before in this country. His are the ideas of those who founded this nation. They are the exact ideas and thoughts that made America great. Above all he is a constitutionalist and anyone who disagrees with his ideaology does not support America or the laws which govern it as our Constitution is SUPPOSED to be the law of the land. The government has far over stepped their bounds and violated their oaths to the offices they hold and the people they represent.

Oh don't be absurd, Ron Paul would have held that seat until he was 115 year olds if he wanted to. He is, unfortunately, deluded into thinking he has any chance of winning the Republican Primaries.

Everything Ron Paul says makes perfect sense and unlike the majority of politicians, I believe he would follow through on his promises if elected President. I can't understand how any conservative could oppose what he says.

You people should stay the hell out of politics, if you really believe that B.S. The Republicans want him out, so he is out. And yet we see all of you Ron Paul overs in here, kissing his arse. People like yourselves should not be allowed to vote. You would never pass a literacy test. It's about time you fools realized how things are really done in this nation, and you are totally powerless to change it. Anyone calling Ron Paul "sharp, tough, and intelligent" is obviously dull, easy, and dumb. Paul has never lived up to his mouth. He is nothing but a fraud.

Bill Clinton was at about 2% at this time when he was running in 1992.
and you political peons really think that he is retireing from Congress to concentrate on his Presidential run?
Yes, that is what we believe. He's 75 years old and has already served 24 years in Congress. What's the point in him running for Congress one more time? He's devoting all his staff and resources to one last Presidential run.
You people should stay the hell out of politics, if you really believe that B.S. The Republicans want him out, so he is out. And yet we see all of you Ron Paul overs in here, kissing his arse.
Lolololol. This might be the best part of this tirade of yours. The logical fallacy of appeal to authority. And the authority you're appealing to is the Republican Party no less! I don't really care what establishment Republican politicians have to say about Ron Paul. Of course they don't like him or want him to win, because he promises to take power away from them.
People like yourselves should not be allowed to vote.

You would never pass a literacy test.
Is this coming from the same guy whose posts are usually filled with typos and misspellings. There's not as many as usual in this post, but just looking a couple sentences back -- you misspelled retiring as "retireing".
It's about time you fools realized how things are really done in this nation
Very poorly? The US is riddled with debt and is one of the most hated countries in the world.
and you are totally powerless to change it. Anyone calling Ron Paul "sharp, tough, and intelligent" is obviously dull, easy, and dumb.
Another statement lacking any solid backing whatsoever. More insults, nothing substantial.
Paul has never lived up to his mouth. He is nothing but a fraud.
He's the only consistently honest politician in the country. He's saying the same things today in 2011 that he said back in the 1970s.

You are the focking idiot who has no clue about politics. I grew up in politics, my father worked for Ron Paul for many years including being a major force in defeating the incumbent republican in the primary election during his return to congress in the 90's. The republicans never wanted Paul in and tried many times to get him out through less than ethical tactics. People who talk out there ass are hilarious. I had a front row seat to politics, specifically Dr. paul and the republicant's for my entire youth as well as adult years. Will he win the presidency? I sure as shit would not bet on it but he is a straight shooter with the morals, honesty, and balls seldom found in politics today. Not all his ideas would work but many would and even the ones that wouldn't are at least genuinely targeted at improving our nation and following our constitution. So next time you talk maybe you should know what it is exactly you are talking about and don't embarras yourself.

Exactly. Good ideas on paper (so he can get the votes and stay in power) but can't never be implemented. You can't default a trillion dollar debt to China and Japan with a switch of a button. But the sheeple like it and will cheer him on.
