    Anyone own a Toyota Prius?
If anyone has got one....or driven one please check in and let us know what you think. I'm seriously considering one of these for my next ride. They say the savings in gas anually on the Pruis vs. standard V-6.....is measurable in thousands.

Read an article yesterday.....Toyota can't keep up with demand. They are building more factories to make the batteries. They can't pump them out fast enough.....

You know what sound a prius makes when it passes you?

      Yooooooooouuuuuuuurrrrrrrr Gay!

That was a Jeff Dunham skit. I would never get rid of my camaro for one of those.

Looks like an Accord or Camry. It would be a second car, for going to work 5 days a week and taking trips.

When you pay a mortgage, gas for the car and fuel to heat your home. Saving $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 a year starts to look very attractive. Obviously a nice whip to drive on the weekends or when I take the lady out is a must. I really wouldn't give a sh1t if I drove a magic flying carpet to work as long as it saved me money. Hell....sits it a parking garage all day.

u also get a tax break if u own one i think.. click link

Question: What Rebates and Tax Breaks are Available for Hybrids?

            Answer:

There are various hybrid rebates and tax breaks available depending upon where you live. U.S. federal and state governments offer a variety of tax incentives and credits to encourage hybrid vehicle ownership. Here's a list of federal tax credits that apply to the purchase of a hybrid vehicle. Cost incentives vary state-by-state, so it's also smart to check your state's hybrid incentives. And give your insurance company a call--many offer discounts to hybrid owners.

They're well-made durable cars and the savings are real, especially if you do stop-n-go city driving. Be sure you live near a Toyota dealership because if something goes wrong your regular mechanic isn't going to have the equipment to figure it out. That said, not much goes wrong on them.

Does it make sense to buy a 2nd car just for the fuel savings? Won't you use up the savings with insurance and car payments? I guess if you are thinking of buying a second car anyway it makes sense?

Anyway, don't have one, but people I know who do love them. It's slow though (0-60 in 10.9), so not sure if it's fair to compare it to a 6-cylinder car...

Well, I live in New England, so we have snow for a couple months, so I have a truck that gets roughly 17 mpg. Right now it's costing me about $85.00 a week. Thats almost $4,500.00 a year on gas. I thought I would look into a hybrid and see if it's worth buying....

By 2010 every automaker will have a hybrid model available. Seems to me this is where the future is going. Imagine how brisk sales of hybrids would be if we had gas in the $6-$8 per gallon range.

I would imagine sales of used Prius are strong...it's a demand thing.

Couple good resale value, with a tax write off.....and the money one would save on gas over a 5 to 8 year period. It's almost like the car would pay for itself......

I think there is a cap on the # of credits given out. Once they sell so many of these types of cars, the tax abatement goes away. Not 100% sure.

Also these cars cost more than the same "regular" car. The difference in price will take you a while to recoup at whatever the savings (cents/mile) is over time. If you are the type of person that buys cars every few years then you may not see an actual savings.

JBC, if you get serious about buying one, PM me. I have a lot of contacts in the car market. I am a wholesaler on a small scale, but I can point you to a reputable new car dealer too. I am at the Southern auction in Windsor every other week. We can hook up on my way back after you get out of the slave-wage cubicle. My treat.

Yes, from what i understand the federal tax credit for hybrids is used up.

The Prius is surprisingly inexpensive -- MSRP of only 21k for the base one. Not sure what "regular car" it should be compared to, but it might not be more expensive. On Edmunds it has the lowest true cost of ownership for cars between 20k and 25k. (still $0.58/mile though)

Sinister, I remember talking with someone about the Honda. The hybrid was something like 3K more new, than the regular version of the Accord (?). So if you save X amount of money per mile with the hybrid, how many miles do you have to drive before you save the 3K you paid up front? It was a lot and most people don't keep their cars that long. I don't remember the exact numbers, but that was the jist of it.

The tax credit for the Prius and one other Toyota hybird is used up, i forget the model. Most other hybrids still have attractive credits, but from what I have heard the Prius is the only hybird worth buying if savings on fuel is your primary concern. The other models' credits do expire based on how many autos are sold, but again from what I have read, the Prius is the only popular hybrid out there.

Yeah, I hear ya. The non-hybrid Civic, for example, has roughly the same true cost of ownership rating on Edmunds as the hybrid version. Basically any gas savings you get are taken by the higher purchase price. If you consider the Prius comparable to a Corolla, you have the same deal there.

what would you like to know. My gf has one. It gets 38 MPG, and thats when I drive it like a race car.

But either way Ive heard that in order for the cost of it to pay off it takes 5 years. Might want to look into that.

I love the list of the "least fuel efficient cars". You know, I was thinking of buying a Bentley Azure, but it turns out the Corolla gets better gas mileage in the same size class, so I'll buy it instead!
