Does anyone dabble in futures contracts on commodities here or even just bookmark CNN commodities webpage where they look at the tote board where it shows what the price of oil, gas, beef, corn, gold, silver and platinum are for the day? It's been an amazing run up for corn where it's been a rare occassion not to see it go up at least a little each day.Now with the Iowa floods the floodgates will open on corn. Then you have the government giving subsidies to farmers to make ethanol with it taking the corn off the food market. If that's not bad enough,I live near the great lakes port of Duluth,Minnesota and you look out in the harbor and see foreign ships loading up with grains that the U.S.taxpayer is giving away free to places like Ethiopia.I just don't see how that can be done in this era when there is a dwindling supply of food here at a reasonable price. No one ever asks politicians why it's happening.

Another good bet in the commodities market is that every year around Memorial Day the price of beef goes up a few dollars per 100# weight. It's BBQ season!!!!!!!Nothing like a great hunk of meat and now the diet fascists are saying not to eat it BBQed because it causes cancer. Is there anything fun you can do these days without being scolded or lectured???????????But gay marriage is fine with the green environmentalists.Go figure.

A good link where you can see each day that you are getting hosed,,,commodities tote board.http://money.com/data/commodities/

It's amazing to see corn and soy beans at those prices. Unreal. That bump yesterday looks like Iowa flood factor money.

No doubt. Was listening to an Iowa farmer on an NPR report yesterday and it's a shame what they're going to have to deal with now. They were looking at a great crop with corn well above $7/bushel now, and it's pretty much all gone for a lot of them. Ethanol futures are soaring, and with less corn to play into that, you can bet both ethanol and gas is going to just go higher.

By the way, the next time I hear a politician or oil & gas man suggest that 'supply' is what's driving oil and gas prices right now, I'm very likely to go postal on their ass.
