In this horrible economy many parents are looking at having their kids go out and get jobs to help out at home.

no disrespect to your son, but id be willing to bet that as long as he has a pulse he'll get the job. judging by the people that work at our staples it isn't rocket science to get hired there

Not the case here. I've been paying for his gas, insurance, and cellphone for the last year. Time for him to pick up the slack.

They DID call him the day after he put in his application. I found that amusing since he's never had a job before.

RK has given good advice.
1. Be neat, clean, and professionally dressed. Slacks (not jeans or shorts), dress shirt or Polo shirt (I don't think as tie is necessary).
2. Be on time or a little (not too) early.
3. Have done your homework. So you can ask intelligent questions.
4. Be willing to be flexible about your work schedule. Volunteer to work the least diserable shifts.
That's a good start...

Good luck to him I'm sure he'll get it with proper hygiene and timeliness. I always liked their bathrooms for the old dump on the road. Some nice privacy, and when you leave there's usually an employee waiting to get into the bathroom and you smile at him as you know he is about to walk into your shitcloud.

as long as he knows that the staples rewards are good for 3 days after expiration, not 14 like they say, he'll know more then the people at my local staples.

don't be a helicopter parent under any circumstance!
Most bases covered from other posters but heres mine.
Dress nice, slacks and polo, clean shaven and showered. Be on time. Smile and be positive. Shake hands and look interviewer in the eyes while shaking hands. Be sure to address the interviewer by name whwn shaking hands and say "nice to meet you _____." Shows he pays attention and has confidence. Thats the important stuff for this type of interview. Good chance to teach him the importance of first impressions. Will put him leaps and bounds in front of the competetion.
After that be honest and relaxed. Smile alot and thank the interviewer and shake hands again.
Kids dont know this stuff and need to be taught.
Good job KLC. What a day for you pal, 3k posts and then this.

He went into his interview. Lasted 15 minutes. He comes home, and they ask him to come back for a second interview with the store manager. They say they might call in a couple of days. I told my son if they don't call by Friday, then he should call them back. Now, we wait and see.
