Whats your longest stretch of unemployment?
Two years ago the division I worked for was sold off, they pink slipped us a month later. Ended up sitting on my can collecting unemployent for close to 6 months. At the end of the 6 months you could have put me in a straight jacket. I would literally start going crazy at 10am everyday.

I come home from work yesterday, one of my neighbors...guy is a drywall taper. Been out of work close to a year.....guy is drunk at 4:30pm talking about how depressing his life is. Told him to go get a job stocking shelves at night at the supermarket for 10 bucks an hour.

Any people work in the contruction industry feel his pain?

Sitting home too long with no work can make you f!@#ing mental.

About two months, I think. Got laid off three times while working in the oil patch along the way. One time I got about eight months pay in severance, and went about two months then before a new term started so I could begin teaching. Another time I was working within two weeks as a greenskeeper at a local golf course mowing greens and fairways. The first time I got laid off back in 1982, I think I got the pink slip on a Wednesday and was back working contract for the very same company the next week. It might be tough to bounce right back into a job with similar pay and duties, but otherwise I don't really have much sympathy for anyone who is either just being picky or simply plain lazy about finding new work.

Never been unemployed but I am kind of wishing it would happen now. It would give me a chance to take a couple of months off and then come back as a tooling consultant and make even more money.

Voluntary or not? I've never really been unemployed if I've wanted to work. I did have a 5 year stretch where I worked for maybe 8 months total (my choice). But if I want to work I"ve always had a job.

Drywall tapers are in high demand where I am located. This is an artform and if you are good at it you can make 6 figures easily.

Im a General Contractor, mainly condo re-modeling and right now Im between projects, having finished our last job about a week ago. Its not unusual for me to shut down for all of June and July. I live in a summer tourist town and construction pretty much comes to a stop during the peak tourism months. I bust my butt 9-10 months a year to get me thru the summer slow months.

Im with ya JBC by 10 am Im climbing the walls, this morning I took the dogs for a swim in the Gulf, and now after some lunch Im going back to the beach. This is pretty much my life for the next 60 days or so.

I got laid off about 4 months ago. This is the first time I've been out of work in almost a decade. Last time was really difficult. I did a lot of temp work but it took me almost a whole year to find another full time job. I just hope it doesn't take me another whole year to find another job. I know several people out of work. This economy is really bad and getting worse. Still waiting for my stimulus check. Went to the IRS office yesterday to find out what was going on but they told me I would have to wait at least an hour to see anyone. FU Uncle Sam, Bush, etc.

Since I started working I have never been unemployed. I have been working since 1991 and had a full time job all during college. It was hard but paid off in the end.
