    An arrest is made

    Update. Arrest made.

    ESPN News

One man was arrested and a second was sought Tuesday in a robbery and beating that left Oakland Raiders receiver Javon Walker unconscious on a side street after a long night of partying at Las Vegas nightclubs.

Police said Arfat Fadel, of Las Vegas, was accused of multiple felonies, including kidnapping, robbery, battery and conspiracy in a June 16 robbery. Lt. Clinton Nichols said Walker lost about $3,000 in cash and $100,000 worth of jewelry in the robbery.

The loot has not been recovered, he said.

"Mr. Walker was in town to have a good time, as many of our visitors to Las Vegas do," Nichols said. "As he will readily admit, he probably had a little too much to drink and he did not pick up on the clues that Mr. Fadel was someone he probably should not have been with."

Police released a booking photo of the 30-year-old Fadel and a black-and-white surveillance videotape image of the other alleged assailant who they said they believed was still in Las Vegas.

"The suspects knew who Mr. Walker was. He did not know who they were," Nichols said. "Whether they were part of his entourage or not remains to be seen."

Nichols said Walker got out of one vehicle he was riding in with friends and got into Fadels's black Range Rover with Fadel and the other man before he was assaulted and robbed.

"He willingly got in the vehicle on his own," Nichols said of the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Walker. "We're unsure why."

      Another update

LAS VEGAS — A man accused of robbing and beating Raiders receiver Javon Walker told a judge Wednesday that police pressured his girlfriend to press domestic violence charges against him before he was arrested in the Walker case.

"My fiancee, she was forced by the police, because of the other matter, to go forward with these accusations," Arfat Fadel said as he appeared by videoconference before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eugene Martin.

Officer Ramon Denby, a Las Vegas police spokesman, declined to comment on Fadel's accusation because investigations were continuing in both cases. He did say Fadel had not cooperated with investigators trying to identify a second man suspected of beating Walker.

The judge also refused Fadel's request to reduce his $13,000 bail in that case and set a preliminary hearing for July 9 on felony kidnapping, coercion and misdemeanor domestic violence battery charges. Fadel remained jailed at the Clark County Detention Center.

Fadel also faces multiple felonies, including kidnapping, robbery, battery and conspiracy, in the June 16 robbery and beating that left Walker unconscious on a side street off the Las Vegas Strip. Fadel is scheduled to make an initial appearance on those charges today in Las Vegas Justice Court.

I'm surprised bail was so low. I thought for sure it would have been six figures.

Judge sets bail for man held in Javon Walker case

LAS VEGAS—A man charged with kidnapping, beating and robbing Javon Walker this month after the Oakland wide receiver spent a night club-hopping was held Friday on bail totaling $86,000.

Arfat Fadel's lawyer, public defender Shane Emerick, said outside court he doubted Fadel could make bail. Emerick said Fadel intended to plead not guilty to charges that he and an unidentified second man followed Walker from club to club before enticing him into their vehicle and robbing him.

Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo set bail at $73,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for July 16 on four felony charges: first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, and battery causing substantial bodily harm. A kidnapping conviction carries a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

The 30-year-old Fadel, of Las Vegas, told another judge Wednesday that he couldn't raise $13,000 bail in a separate kidnapping and domestic battery case.

Las Vegas police say Fadel has not cooperated with investigators who are seeking another man shown in surveillance videotapes with Fadel shadowing Walker at nightclubs late June 15.

Police say the 29-year-old Walker "willingly" got into a vehicle with Fadel and the other man in a valet area at the posh Bellagio resort about dawn June 16. Walker, who a police lieutenant characterized as intoxicated, was found robbed, beaten and unconscious a little more than an hour later.

Yeah that is strangely low indeed for this type of assault and other charges.
