I Can't Believe That The Mets Fired Willie Randolph?
Just because they signed Johan Santana, Mets ownership expects the team to be an overnight sensation? One word - BULLSH*T!

Martinez is always on the DL, Maine is terribly unreliable, Delgado is over the hill, Reyes only plays when he wants to (despite his incredible talents), Alou is another DL resident, Perez is a 'full grown' pitching mistake, the Mets bullpen just sucks (Wagner wants to talk sh*t, but he isn't helping them win either)...

The 2008 Mets are a shadow of what they were in 2006. Willie Randolph had no control over those dumb ass trades. Johan's good, but he's not worth that kind of money in the NL. The Yanks should have picked him up.

The NYC Media fueled this bullsh*t. I hope the Mets go into a f*cking tailspin.

I like Willie also and believe this is all Minaya's fault, but it gets to a point where there's nothing else to motivate the players but to bring in a new coach.

Can I get odds on the new coach being latin or would it be too obvious on Minaya's part?

Nope. The Mets players did by pulling a choke for the ages last season. Willie and everybody else in the world knew what it meant if they didn't make amends & make amends EARLY this year.

I'm a Mutts fan - and I wasn't much of a fan bringing him in to begin with.
Granted, he made a billion stupid decisions and stayed with guys in spots in the lineup or on the hill when he shouldn't have. A lot of die hard Mutts fans I'm friends with didn't like him much, either. Most of the time our conversations started with "Man, Willie is pissing me off."

One thing this Mutts team had with Willie was a sense of entitlement. They started out games strong and coast the rest of the game. They never played with a ton of heart and the bats always put a ton of pressure every night on the pitching - because you KNEW they weren't going to score.

I think when they made it to the NL Championship series and didn't win, something changed in the team. They lost confidence, didn't play with the spark they did the previous season and set the stage for epic fail last season. This year? They're impossible to watch most nights. You get maybe 1 or 2 innings where you're glad you're a Mutts fan.

I have to say Willie handled the lame-duck situation well and I think the ownership/management handled it about as poorly as you can. It was a disgrace. As much as I didn't care for Willie, they hung him out to dry. I think this stupidity is going to linger for some time. This sucks.

I'm not surprised that they fired him at all, however I was in regards to the way it was done.

I didn't hear about this but Randolph has been on the hot seat since last season's debacle. Can't say that I'm surprised.

He wasn't qualified for the job. AL maybe, but not for an NL managerial job. His bullpen management was awful, and he simply didn't fully grasp the tactical part of the job. Good riddance.

Granted, the staff sucks, especially with injuries to Pedro and El Duque, but with this lineup in the NL there is zero excuse for this team being under .500... and considering the fact that their team ERA is 15th in the MLB (8th in the NL)... in other words, AVERAGE... this offense should put them over the top in the NL.
