Never roast beef for me. But I've had quite a few roast turkey sandwiches with gravy on top and beer. Have done the drive between Orlando/Buffalo and Orlando/North-Western Canada many times. I've met some nice people in truck stops. Have also met some religious freaks in a couple of Georgia truck stops as well. Good times.

you can't get a beer at most and maybe all truck stop resturants. Maybe back in the day when BJ and his bear were hammering down the highway. But today it's a big no no.

As far as the lizards go, they are usually stranded crack heads looking for a ride to the next major city, at least the ones that come and knock on your rig in the middle of the night. Todays lizards all use portable hand held CB's and use the code carpet cleaning service. They will get a hold of you and offer their carpet cleaning services.

A lot of drivers use this sticker on their drivers side window to keep them from knocking on the door in the middle of the night.

Ive eat at flying J's all the time.....the other one on my side of the river has a taco bell and pizza hut in it...I think its Pilot I believe....not real sure...the one flying J's which sits on the grounds of the old Cahokia Downs has a Dennys in it.

Pilot bought out all flying J's. Flying J's had good style resturants and Pilots were all fast food joints.

When I get on 95 I'm trying to set track records so I only stop for gas and a water but one of these days I'll be stopping at Cafe Risque in NC. I don't know if it's actually considered a truck stop but they do have showers.

As for real truck stops, ain't many of em left. Just about everything is fast food joints as said before.

When did this change??? Mind you I haven't done this drive since 2002 I think but you could get one quite often then. Even if the restaurant side didn't have beer on the menu, we'd usually just buy some from the attached store and just bring them to the table. One of the things I loved about living in the States although it still doesn't make much sense to me: Being able to buy beer at petrol stations.

I'm not sure Shari but I've seen truck stops with beer in the convience stores but not on the menu. Truckers buy 6 packs all the time, but I have not seen it on a resturant menu, but I have not been to every truck stop in America.
