#2That is a long, and boring trip.
You can get to Oklahoma faster, than Amirrillo coming from Dallas.Comment -

#5I have to agree with the above posters that this is a relatively desolate stretch of highway, but it is definitely the fastest route. Almost all the highways in Texas are excellent for travel.
But Fisher....if there was ever a light at the end of the tunnel....this one would be for you, pal.
Once you arrive in Amarillo.....stop in to the Big Texan Steakhouse and take part in their 72 oz Big Texan Steakhouse Special!
Eat everything you see below in less than one hour...and its FREE. That's +EV to the fullest, my friend.
The Big Texan Steak Ranch, world famous for of the free 72oz steak challenge. Historic Route 66 landmark and Texas icon. Only located in Amarillo, Texas.

Stopped in there last year on the way to the bash..............had dinner and a couple beers at the bar.
Sorry to say, was not impressed with the food or service.
Opie, seems like I always get lost in Dallas..............coming from the west(vicksburg), what is the easiest way to get around dallas and headed in the right direction for Amirillo? Have mapquest, but its still always a clusterfukzation in and around Dallas and always seem to take at least one wrong turn.Comment -

#20Hey Fisher. Personally, I would bypass all of downtown Dallas area and just take I-20 W all the way to HWY 287. This may be a few more miles (maybe not, depending on where you are able to get on I-20), but absolutely the least traveled highway in the D/FW area. There will be almost no chance of getting stuck in traffic traveling this route. This is absolutely the only way I would ever go.
Hope this helps, pal.Comment -

Thus, you suggest staying on 20 and then taking 35E north.........to 287?
