1.) How do Blu Ray movies compare to HD sports or movies on cable?

2.) Are the 40GB models a bargain at $399 for someone that doesn't play 34923848327432 games?

3.) Break down the online play as simply as possible.

    And any other random thoughts.

    1. Blue Ray are awesome, it is better than HD

    2. 40 GB is all you need

    3. Online play is easy. You just log on and challenge people to play you

        Thanks for the replies fellas.

Dj, I do like Madden games and that's one of the main reasons I was going to switch back to console, I have just played the PC version. Players online cheat too there, theyll unplug modem and give synch. errors causing you to disconnect somehow. They do similar crap on PS3 online?

BlueRay is 1080p vs. HD cable/satellite being 720p. Only see a dif if you have an HDTV 1080p tv.

I got an 80gig for $399 at Walmart.

It's an adjustment playing Madden on PS3 when you're used to the PC variety, overall there are some fun games like Grand Theft Auto but I find myself feeling I've outgrown the console. I mainly consider it a good investment because of the stuff like Blu-Ray playing, I can watch an HD movie on it and should there ever be a game that tickles my fancy, I can buy it.

I bought a used but good as new PS3 60GB on ebay about 6 months ago. I wanted that version because it has full backwards compatibility with the PS2 & PS1 games. Also had wireless networking built in.

If you play older games and don't mind buying used on eBay give it a look.

I have a 50 inch plasma that only does 720P so I cannot speak about whether 1080P looks better than my HD from DirecTV. But BluRay movies look great for me at 720P

You will notice the difference in 1080p over the 720p/1080i on cable/sat.

The PS3 is a overall good investment I feel. You get a Blu-Ray player, along with upcoverting regular DVD's to HD quality, gaming of course, internet station and storage for pictures and videos.

I just bought Little Big Planet yesterday. Haven't played it yet though.

I bought a 720p tv...I didn't think 1080 was worth 400.00 and my cable company doesn't even show paperviews in HD!!! i'm pissed! But I only watch sports mainly so im good.

my real question is if I get a bluray player, could I still watch it in HD at 720p?

Love mine, 60mg used on ebay, plays ps2 games,
Hook it up to the internet an download FREE demos.
I have lots of FREE games DEMOS are all I need, do not play much so Demos are awesome. Tiger woods golf demo give me 3 holes not 18. The force demo is awesome, why paid 60 when you can get a demo.
                              Blue rays are great, too.

                                Hi PC,

Color me naive on this topic, but here's my thinking. If you get a Blu-Ray player, whether a PS3 or a standalone, you would have the option to stream your movies at 720, 1080, 59953952, whatever is built into the players hardware: however, if your TV's native HD resolution(s) don't support these picture modes, you may experience a drop in viewing quality. Ideally, if your TV can run 720, the Blu-Ray will with no issues.
