USA was making real gains and getting respect around the world a few years back. They were ranked #4 in in 2006. They aren't a threat to win anything now. Maybe they will be again and then again, maybe they won't.

USA can play decent, but for a long term team they ain't able minded to make it. And that's because the social impact on sports, the criteria selection is kinda limited in US for football. Here in Europe you're taken to a football match before you can say the first word of your youth. In US they prefer NHL, MLB, even Nascar (hell how can somebody dedicate to such a ''sport''). In Europe and other continents the sport is much more than a hobby which it is at this point in US. Here is a social life playing soccer, there is just the hobby. Teenagers want to make performance out of MLB, NHL and other sports and that's why the US national team is where it is. Even with this, their results are much more than decent.

It's 99.9% JJ. Howard only worth mentioning here in Europe and he still is an average goal keeper in England. EU clubs are now signing more and more Africans and South American players.
