Playing a 6'10'' man in quarter finals. He leads him 1-0, but it was on carpet a few years ago. This guy, Ivo Karlovic, has a monstrous serve, its blazing fast, hasn't been broken all tournament.

Rafa was broken once by the Japanese today, doesn't figure to land many aces here, is it finally time to fade him?

I think Nadal will def Karlovic ... but it will take him 3 sets to do so .

Well, Karlovic is 29yo, turned pro the year before Rafa.

However, his career singles record is 113-105. Compared to 279-93 for Rafa. Rafa also has 27 career titles compared to 3 for this guy, and this guy has only won ATP Tour titles.

Rafa is much more of a tested, experienced champion in that regard, but this guy has a penchant for these warmup tournaments as they are pretty much his bread & butter. He is also 14/17 his last matches on grass, which Rafa is not AS supremely talented on as clay.

If Karlo wins it won't be going away, it would be close either way unless Rafa decides to really play flawlessly then of course he would win.

All you have to do is return Karlo serve in some form and you will win the match. He looks like a big spider out there with these massively long arms and legs.Runs horrible from side to side. He usually just wins though because people can't return his serve. Since Nadal has a real good return of serve I think he will win this match.Definately don't think it will be a 6-2 6-2 type of match or anything

Agree, I mean Rafa is favored for a reason, but today I was a bit disappointed in his return game aside from the 3rd set. He even said himself he didn't play his best in an interview, but played well enough to win. If he thinks he can play like that again against Ivo, he will lose in 3 sets just because of the nature of his power and the grass.

He needs to turn in a bit better of a performance IMO.
