Here in Michigan we are all very depressed. Auto industry about to collapse, foreclosures at an all time high, unemployment rates at an all time high, gas prices sky rocketing, Tigers are dismal. Boys, how is it where you live?

Nicky, right now we are all without power. Posting on an iPhone. Nicky, jobs are being cut left and right. Buzzy, we're barreled in here. All of us. I live in Oakland County, the wealthiest county in Michigan and we're all starting to see it.

Huge storms blew through a few days ago. Trees, powerlines, pieces of housing cover the streets. Street lights dark, I lay in bed at night with my girl, after I fukk her, I lay there while she sleeps, all I can here is generators. The rumble of generators puts me to sleep JJ. Richie, where is FEMA? George Bush doesn't like white people.

I was just watching the Detroit news and houses are catching on fire from people using generators near gas cans.

Slack jaws. I will take a pic of mine later today. About to go out on the boat. Mines in my driveway. Gas cans behind the garage door that is shut.

GM may be hurting, but I'm in the construction industry and its as busy as ever. New homes, condos, renovations, road work, office towers etc etc. always a need for concrete. Life is good.

Honda and Toyota plants in Ontario are doing just fine, sales of GM's gas guzzling trucks are down and will likely never rebound as long as they run on gas/diesel.

Life is easy right now, I work until November then get laid off for a few months in the winter, travel to Cuba and the Dominican every year, might try Colombia and Ecuador this year.
Canadian Dollar is high, great for travelling.

hey, you should feel great because you're an American and we invaded Iraq and showed those foreigners who is the boss!!

Of course, I'm being sarcastic. But the truth is that Bush and the Religious Right put us in this mess which will get worse once Bush bombs Iran and further drives up the price of oil. What can I say? I'm sorry I voted for Bush!

Deuce, my family still lives in Michigan. My mom lost her job last November after 8 years of working at the same law firm. My sister lives in the thumb area and had a pretty rough winter. The ice on the roof tore a hole, resulting in leaking and mold damage to the point where they can't even live there anymore. It never would have resulted in mold damage if the insurance company wouldn't have waited 4 months to approve the quote to fix the damage. Everything is shit in that state right now. I am so glad that I moved to Florida 2 years ago!

Mold damage is neglect, she probably let it go so long , sometimes you need to act on your own to prevent big time damage, people in Michigan are way too laid back and things like this happen.

                                A failed Keynesian economy!

Get some democrats that are in the unions pockets and here is what you have. They will get the unemployed factory workers 15 years of unemployment-workers comp-free medical-free retraining at any college. All of those decades of social-ist mentality spending is why the automobile industry turned out crap products at inflated prices causing no one to buy the products causing the layoffs. The auto companies were health maintenance organization retirement funds and social service agencies that just so happened to make vehicles as an afterthought.

So what will happen now is,your neighbor will teach womens studies at the state college, your wife will get trained by your neighbor to become a poverty pimp social worker, your kids will all become convinced they have autism,a medical professional will treat them,he will be too busy treating patients where he neglects raising his kids so they will enter the juvenile system,a juvenile parole councilor will make a living treating those kids.etc.etc.

You won't produce anything but you will have a whole economy based on Keynesian government spending.Casinos will be everywhere and people that work for the government will spend worthless printed funny money there. The casinos will be looked upon as something that comes the closest thing to producing a meaningful product.hehe!!!!

P.San afterthought...I just looked at what the local high school kids that graduated will attend college for and 3 things seem to be the new in thing to do.One is any kind of law enforcement-prison guards-border patrol-homeland security etc,,,Then you have a ton of girls that want to be social service councilors giving away tax payer dollars,,,then you have the kids that want to become medical people pill pushing, taking care of hypochondriacs etc.You also have kids wanting to become teachers, councilors, working in the defense industry,NASA,government.NO ONE is saying that they plan to produce something in the private sector,,,it's frightening!!!!!

The effects of this gas pricing is slowly starting to take effect.Small business will have trouble staying afloat. In the supermarket I noticed alot of markdowns! Its a sign people are not buying as much as before. Its a rippling effect thats going to get deeper in the Southern California area.

Portugal isn't better but at least we have good beaches

I'm a psychologist and we have around 26.000 persons unemployed on this sector. Our total population is around 10 milion. It's really that bad.The chances of getting a job are pretty bad here, most of the people opt by going to other countries.

It's horrible here in Texas, especially in the smaller towns. People are starving to death, saw three of 'em drop just on my drive home today. Wife and I have been living on deer corn and rotten tomatoes that our neighbors throw over their fence. So don't think it's better here and move here like the great migration from up north in the late 70s, early 80s. No sir, don't move to Texas, it's real bad down here, y'all stay right where you're at and we'll let you know if things get better.

It might have been the tomatoes that caused the three to drop. Don't worry, us Yanks can't afford the gas to move down South.

I saw a report on the news over a year ago......way before the housing collapse. You could buys houses of about 2000/2500 square feet in Michigan for 15-20k. It's been a pit of despair for about a decade. Deuce....pack your bags kid.....get the hell out of there. That place is an economic disaster of the largest proportion.

Nasty, in-bred population, and the state's been all a'flutter what with the FLDS, Dumbya about to move back here full-time, plus Mo having just left us has the women all in bad moods

My 1st post in this thread sounded harsh but here is why I sound that way.

I have lived all my life in the iron ore-taconite mining area of Minnesota where all the raw material comes from to make steel that was in close alliance with the car making plants for decades.I live a stones throw away from U.S.Steel mining property that was dug out of an open pit to probably produce 57 Chevy's,Corvette's and every other desirable U.S.car ever made plus all the nations sky scrapers.I live 3 miles from the property Ford owned to mine iron ore for steel production.

I was very shy, timid, gullible and always went along with what any authority figures said right up until the time I left high school.Hell,I was taught the democrats were the party of getting equality for the little guy.etc.That's when it happened where I tried taking a route away from the mining trades that were in cahoots with the unions and democrats. My friends who were laid off from the democrat-union controled mines were treated like bald eagle endangered species while me and my friends in other private sector jobs not affiliated with the state run industry crowd were treated like crap. When you lost a job you were told there were crap jobs available and usually you were in them in a week. When the miners lost a job,it would go on for years and years where they would collect bennies as big as when they were working full time. They had all sorts of names for these glorified welfare bennies like the federal trade readjustment act etc.The single guys that were on these tax payer bennies were jetting off to Vegas, the mardi gras, buying boy toy fishing boats,4 wheel drive mud runners etc. Then at the end they had it where some could go to college or trade school for free and collect a glorified welfare income besides. Some of the guys were going for idiotic things like fluff course picture framing.I kid you not.Anything easy where you didn't have to study where you could leave class and go to the bars all night and hustle women.

I know Michigan operates the same way where they socialized the car industry etc.making it sort of a state run business in a way. They imposed such huge restrictions on employee benefits where it all became a bloated bohemouth. The people working at the plants priced themselves out of jobs with all the protections and demands. Why the companies went along with it all is sort of a mystery.I suppose the CEO types knew the companies were sinking ships but as long as they collected their golden parachutes before the ship sank, that was allright with them.

Almost all of the american mining companies here went bankrupt over the decades and now the government has helped the foreign mining companies with tax payer subsidies to move in and ship the raw steel ore to China where it comes back here as finished goods.Witht he weak dollar,we are looked upon as a 3rd world nation for cheap natural resources and the democrats and unions are all happy over the situation because the plants are running. They all hate Wal Mart but they are producing tax payer subsidised steel to send to China to come back here as Wal Mart merchandise.hehehehe~!

One plant,Oglebee Norton that supplied iron to Ford was featured in a current movie called North Country starring Woody Harrelson-and that Charlise Theron lez where the women union employeeswho were told they had nice cans by the male union employees came away with a couple million each and bankrupted the company. Now it's partially owned by the Chinese with state and federal help.It became cost prohibitive for the american companies to run these places with every demand imposed upon them.

No, it was from ice damming. They called the insurance company right away and the insurance company dropped the ball. Considering the economy is automotive driven, it isn't that people are lazy...it's that people are moving business down south. And I don't blame them.

Auto Unions are to blame here, folks. Nobody wants to pay a crack head $30 an hour to work on an assembly line.

Question for you guys. When (and if it ever happens) gas prices drop, will the cost of everything that increased drop as well?

I have pretty good job security, which is nice. However, I HAVE noticed that people aren't going out for dinner as much. I've been making shIt for money at the second job.
