Watching all this rioting and videos of other riots, I'll never understand the whole mob mentality thing. Surely there is alcohol, perhaps even drugs involved in most cases but certainly not all. Still even with certain influences there is still something at the very core of the persons involved.

It's not a gender specific thing, it's not a race or nationality thing it's not even an age thing, it's a lack of respect thing both for self and others.

While I was in college, a few years back, we studied the exact thing you are trying to understand about the mentality of rioters. It is actually quite fascinating how people react to these occurences and many have no idea why they acted as they did. Lack of respect is definately a factor involved and also the fact that many are upset at their own lives and their own "self worth" that they latch on to other peoples failures in order to feel better about their own lives...of course, this is not the case for all involved, but the factors are very personal to oneself and it just comes to fruition when others join and form a mob.
