people who say luongo was taking a shot at thomas on this statement are overreacting. it was a fair statement and the media has been saying the same thing about thomas for quite some time. thomas puts his team at greater risk by his style of play. he makes lots of easy saves look spectacular because he has to dive back into his crease after wandering too far out. its entertaining to watch, but as a bruins fan your heart's gotta be pounding a little bit every time he leaves the paint

Luongo saying that thomas didn't make that save because he plays at top of paint. Well, maybe if LOOOUUUUU the sieve played at top of paint sometimes, he'd be able to make some easy saves.

this happens sometimes, and is a disadvantage to his style. But the advantage is that he's able to basically eliminate all the shooting angles. When he's further out, a player sees no opening in the net. thomas basically covers the entire net not leaving any holes to score. players are virtually left to try to deke. but thomas is great at stopping dekes too.

so yes, occasionally playing further out will hurt him. but 99% of the time it just helps him make big saves all game long.


Looooouuuuu the enigma and the sieve can criticize thomas all he wants, but there's no question thomas is the best goaltender in the nhl.
