The only reason that all 3 periods matter in hockey is because a ridiculous goal like the Vancouver goal to beat San Jose can happen at any point and the the determining factor in who goes to the Stanley Cup. Too much dumb shitt like that happens in hockey that plays way to big a role in deciding crucial things.

The worst part is when the game actually does matter (in the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter) it isn't even basketball we're watching; it's who can draw fouls and make/miss shots from the line. It's time outs. It's intentional fouls. It's running around on your side of half trying to kill clock. It's a mockery of professionalism and athleticism.

It's really a pathetic sport when you come to think of it.

My uncle is a big nba bettor. Years ago when I was a kid he asked me why I'm watching the whole game. I asked him whay he meant. He told me " the last two minutes are the only part that matters and that is the only part he watches" I did not know until years later he was a gambler.

I will usually watch the last 6 mins or so, maybe 9. We all know the game is going to be back and forth, and will end in the last minutes.
