    Anyone here from New Orleans?
    Just finished watching the documentary

If God is Willing and Da Creek Dont Rise

And what a disgusting series of events unfolded after Katrina. My girlfriend lived there for a year pre-Katrina and I watch Treme weekly, so I have a slight understanding of the bullshit that residence (Black People) of the area had to deal with post Katrina. But this Doc really brings to light just how much the people of Louisiana in general got fukked over by everyone.

Anyone still live there, or have moved there?
What is the current state of the area?

I moved there in December 05 (4 months after katrina) and was doing work rebuilding houses, roofing to be exact. It was pretty messed up back then. No bodies or nothin but everything was shutdown, in ruins, and desolate in some areas. Other areas were perfectly fine.
Since then i've been off and on living in N.O. and Chicago. I currently live in a town about 30 miles north of New Orleans right on the other side of the lake. Being that its over 5 years later, everything is back to normal for the most part. In that sense I mean there are no more blue tarps over anybodys roof or nobody is still living in fema trailers. With that said, there are still areas/buildings/houses that never got rebuilt or worked on and are still visible in some areas of the city. Also there are still many unsettled insurance claims and financial matters in regards to the storm. Corruption was a huge deal as well. All the ppl that defrauded fema, insurance agencies, the red cross etc are slowly but surely starting to get caught. Contractors who defrauded innocent homeowners as well.
Even environmentally speaking, areas of the swamps and marshes were permanently damaged and even today its having a significant ecological effect.

oh and a sidenote, in the middle of 2006 (about 9-12 months after the storm) crime was at an all time high, probably the worst the city ever saw even with half the population gone, still taking refuge in houston, baton rouge, atlanta, etc. so much so that the national guard was called in for a long period of time. it was like a 3rd world country in the city.
not to mention extra crime started happening in houston and baton rouge and other traditionally 'quieter' areas that are still affected from those influxes of evacuees today.
