Who the hell passes such laws??

    75 years? Really??

Valley Man Faces 75 Years In Prison For Recording Law Enforcement

Michael Allison faces 75 years in prison for recording law enforcement officials without their consent in Robinson, Illinois.

Illinois is one of the states applying old eavesdropping and wiretapping statutes to new technologies like cell phones or anything else that records audio.

Those laws technically make it illegal to record on-duty law enforcement officials without their consent. The penalty for that crime here in Illinois, is a class 1 felony.

Click on the video to watch our investigation into the state law and this particular case in Crawford County.

Freedom of the press/speech/expression. Federally protected rights. If I could get 75 years for recording a cop beating someone up I might as well shoot his ass to stop it right? Class 1 Felony has to carry 20 year minimum sentence or so right?

That's utter BS! If it happens out in public, it is fair game. I want to see all the TV and News stations consent forms when they cover cops working a crime scene or traffic accident. This country is becoming more and more a police state.

Sounds like video recordings, without the audio, are still perfectly legal.

                      Chicago politics.

The term "public official" has a meaning.

Cameras are on us every public move we make, yet cops are exempt.

                      BS.
