Ive been considering getting a bike. Ive never rode one before but Ive always wanted one. Is it pretty easy to learn? Also what type of bike should I buy? I like the Ducati's.

#4damn, if you have never rode i recommend borrowing someones dirtbike and ride some trails to get a feel for a bike, and then i wouldn't get over a 600cc, maybe even a 500cc, until you are comfortable. you are going to be surprised at how fast a crotch rocket is.Comment -

#5I personally wouldnt spend 10K plus on a starter bike. I would get a cheap Honda or some shit and make sure you like riding. If you do wait a couple years then get yourself a bad boy Harley or somethingComment -

#7Is it too powerful or what? Im bigger guy so I feel like I can handle a bigger bike. A buddy of mine back home started on a CBR900. Now hes got a Hayabusa.
I rode some dirtbikes as a kid and young teenager. Is it pretty much the same?Comment -

#8When I started I went straight to sport bikes. First bike was a 2000 Kawi ZX-7. I ended up getting hit by an old lady after owning it for two years. Cracked 2 of my ribs and totaled my bike.
Upgraded to a 1000cc Honda. Bike is deadly fast. All the new liter bikes from the jap makers are sick, probably not for beginners.
Check out any jap bike early 02'...03'...04's. They don't make the 700, 750cc models anymore. It's either 600cc or 1000cc now. Your decent size in your video....looks like 600cc would be too small for you........but a 750 would be perfect.Comment -

#15If I may make a suggestion here, I recommend you check out you local DMV and see if they offer classes and training. Our's offers that and at the end of your classes and training you get your endorsment for your license.Comment -

#17Capitalist, thanks for the offer but Im not really interested in HD's. Those are awesome bikes but just not my style.
Lottery, I was wondering if there were classes I could take, sort of like car driving classes.Comment -

#19Yes, I recommend it highly. Too many self taught riders get killed. Motor Vehicle and sometimes the local Community College has it too.Originally posted by KellenCapitalist, thanks for the offer but Im not really interested in HD's. Those are awesome bikes but just not my style.

#20Kellen yes but not sure if all offer this. I do know a few places around here that do offer it as well (Vo-Tech) school right up the road from us as well as they supply bikes and helmets.
good luck and remember to be safe

#22Kellen,
Before buying a motorcycle learn how to ride one. Each state should have a class similar to the one listed below for Georgia.
Once you learn how to ride buy a bike that fits your frame. If you are short don't buy a bike that has a high saddle so that your feet can't reach the ground.
An easy good beginners bike is a Ninja 250. It doen't have tremendous power but you don't need it at the beginning so you can learn how to turn, accelerate, and stop. It doesn't handle like a car and if you don't know what you are doing you will kill yourself. You can get a used Ninja 250 for less than $2000.
Once you learn how to ride you can upgrade to something bigger and better. I have a Suzuki DL 1000 Vstrom right now which I use to commute. When I didn't have children I was a daredevil and owned one of the first Hayabusa's in the country that did 205 mph (they are banned now).Comment -

#23Best suggestion out there yet, they supply the bike and when you are done, you got a good idea if this is what you want.Been riding for almost 40 years and still do the advance courses.Bikes ain't no game, when you think they are,you lose.Originally posted by LotteryTicketIf I may make a suggestion here, I recommend you check out you local DMV and see if they offer classes and training. #25Tell you something nuts... I bought one yrs ago before I even rode one before. I tell you what it was an experience when I took my hand off the clutch and almost wrecked my new bike. I road it around the parking lot for an hr or so downshifting and upshifting and rode it to work the next day 5 miles away. Its not that hard to learnIf it seems to good to be true it usually is!!
I have a natural instinct to exploit market ineffieciencies!!Comment -
