To all. My question actually has nothing to do with repubs vs dems now that i think about it for more than 2 seconds. I wasnt trying to portray that one should only be republican.

If you can't see the inherent differences between the logistics/concerns in the USA's defense needs and the likes of Australia/Spain/Brazil, well then you should probably just refrain from making any sort of argument regarding foreign policy.

In Costa rica, we have no welfare. No government assistance. No food stamps. No rent assistance. People work. You don't see a ton of homeless people.

The sense of entitlement that many people have is just sad. Nobody owes you a damn thing. You work for 40 years for somebody? Awesome. Why should he have to continue paying you for the rest of your life? People retire too early. What's the age now, 62? Screw that. You still have ~20 years left on your life. If anybody is responsible for you, it should be your family. Not your former employer. Not your government.

ChiliDog, it used to be this way in America until everything changed about 50-60 years ago. When people reached retirement age, they did NOT whine and beg the government for financial/medical assistance. Instead, seniors moved in with their children who helped assist with financial and medical needs and medical costs were quite reasonable because EVERYBODY who received medical services paid for them in cash or some form of credit.

Unfortunately, all of the people who "came off the boat" in the late 1800's/early 1900's who kissed the ground upon arrival and were willing to work their tails off have been replaced with a new set of immigrants who REFUSE to speak English, breed like absolute rabbits and go straight to the social services office the moment they turn 18.

While I sure do wish I could press a magic button and make all of the deadbeat leeches who collect welfare simply disappear, I can't blame them for not wanting to put in an honest days work when instead they can sit home and collect a welfare check.

WORK SUCKS and if sitting on your ass pays better, why not do it?

The problem is the liberal democratic politicians who are more than willing to send the welfare checks right to their door every week in return for their vote every 2 or 4 years.

Nothing has changed when it comes to the United States being the greatest country in the world. What has changed is the work ethic and character of people living in the U.S.. Diversity used to be my country's greatest strength and now its my country's GREATEST WEAKNESS.

I can only imagine how the minimum wage Taco Bell/McDonald's worker must feel when they talk with their neighboor next door who collects welfare and makes 2X as much as the minimum wage worker with better medical benefits.

My solution is simple:

Immediately stop sending money to people who don't work and use those funds to financially assist those that do work. Who the heck can live on $7.25/hour? The people who are currently collecting a welfare check for doing absolutely nothing would either get a job or turn to crime.

Those that turn to crime need to be punished to the fullest extent the law allows. Those that choose full time work would continue to collect some form of extra financial assistance to pay for medical insurance, etc.

Liberal democrats call this cold-hearted but "sane" individuals view it as simple common sense.

Nat'l Defense spending: $722 billion
Social Security: $724 billion
Medicare: $462 billion
Income Security (IE: Welfare): $629 billion
Other health spending (IE: Medicaid): $386 billion

Don't be an asshole, get the facts.

And the facts are that we are spending more on social security alone than defense. When you combine the other programs listed, we are spending TRIPLE on "social assistance" than what we are spending on defense.
