Fishhead: Does a video poker machine recognize cash differently than a ticket?

Does it recognize a 20 dollar bill differently than a $20 ticket you stick in?

Yes it has to be dual programmed .It will mess up the count if it recognizes tickets as tender.

I don't know for sure, but it seems I have better luck when using cash (maybe it thinks its new customer?) rather that using my tickets (can track my wins/losses)

However, it would make no difference whatsoever on how the machine spits out the cards......zilch. That is the sole job of the RNG(Random number generator).
